Thomas *does not* want it given to everyone who asks, from here on in. It was a Christmas event. The repost was for current (at that time) members who had been away for Christmas & missed it. This was done completely at his own personal discretion & now he would like it to be officially unavailable. His concern is that people may catch wind of its existence and join just in order to get it. The reason he objects to emailing the file is that if he doesn't oversee it himself, he worries about security measures and the file being too widely disseminated, further risking exposure on something like napster. He isn't trying to keep it from anyone, honest. He just wants it to be safe and this is how he's decided to go about it. We must respect his choice. He is incredibly generous by nature, so I wouldn't be surprised if he did re-post the file at some later date (perhaps another Christmastime) so that more members can hear it. Sorry, Damien and everyone else, maybe I should have explained it more thoroughly. I thought you'd all read the prevous posts by Thomas and myself about not emailing the file. I'd also assumed folks here would know by now that I wouldn't say anything about Thomas or his work without getting it straight from the man himself. xxxxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Mar 2001 19:15:01 -0500 From: "Robin" Subject: Re: Alloy: Napster, Fever Pitch, and the Everlasting Gobstopper Melissa wrote: > Just my opinions. Well, excuse me while I disagree... if I were a new list member and received the response Jon posted, I would feel attacked... Jon's email WAS nasty and WAAAAAAYYYYY over the top, given the subject matter. I understand you all feel strongly about this issue, but Paulo *asked a question*. Sure, he may have been a little plaintive in his request, but it was still just a request. A need for clarification. Not a demand, not getting something "at all costs". In my extremely humble opinion, he deserves an apology. What a nice impression we all must have made on him. Julie thinking Melissa's sabbatical sounds like a good idea, although probably for different reasons ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V6 #57 **************************
