When you do so, go introduce yourself to the drummer (who is from London, Ontario) and tell him that a fan of his (and his old Funk band "The Juice" says hi.... his name is Mark) He is a super nice fellow. Denise and I went last January and had a blast seeing all the casino shows and just wandering around. You have the pirate battle at Treasure Island, the dancing fountains at Bellagio, the battle for Atlantis at Caesar's Palace, the various circus acts at Circus Circus, the best view of Vegas atop the Stratosphere, and much more. I think you'll find you won't need to spend bucks to have a memorable visit. Have fun! Only 12 men have done it and I believe only 9 of those are still living. I've been fortunate enough to meet Buzz Aldrin(2nd man on the moon) and Gene Cernan(12th and last man) and both were very gracious about taking pictures and signing autographs. Through the years I've made this a hobby of some sorts and have been lucky enough to have pictures with various people such as Muhammad Ali, Margaret Thatcher, Jimmy Carter, Joe DiMaggio, and Michael Jordan. It can be tricky sometimes since security with political figures is understandably tight but usually once you're recognized as being sincere asking for a photo can be accomplished. A good friend of mine once told me that authenticity of autographs is an issue that never ends unless you get one in person yourself. He suggested that if you buy one from another party to be happy with it as is since the only time it would become an issue is if it was resold for profit which is not what the definition of "hobby" includes. Of all my experiences what's my favorite! Why Thomas Dolby of course! Have fun collecting Tim! Hi Melissa, You've never been to the Neon-Pop-Culture Vegas? You'll easily spend your SAturday night just wandering with your eyes hanging out. Free things: the Pirate Show in front of Treasure Island, the Fountain Show in front of the Mirage, mini-acts like trapeze and flexo-people at Circus Circus, the art gallery at the Bellagio, and my personal favorite, going around to each casino and getting their free "fun-books," and doing the random free game of Keno or money wheel. Rob and I went to Vegas for free (airfare and hotel) after listening to one of those timeshare pitches, and then we tried to see how much entertainment we could get for free or cheap. Actually my favorite was the ride at the top of the Stratosphere, but it wasn't so cheap ($7 each). I've heard Paris is neat too, but it wasn't built when I was there last. *B* ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Feb 2001 10:02:46 -0500 From: Robin Thurlow Subject: Re: Alloy: Suggestions for a Las Vegas Saturday Night? I'd say a free don't-miss would be the the dancing fountain in front of the Bellagio. It goes every thirty minutes or so and will astound you with the beauty and sheer magintude of the water jets that are perfectly coordinated to the music. Also near there is Ceasars Palace. Take a stroll through Ceasar's Forum Shops and watch the anamatronic fountain in the Atlantis area. You said you had no money for shows or gambling, but if you can somehow squeeze $80.00 out of your budget, I highly suggest you do what I did when, like you I was there a day longer than my friends. I went to Treasure Island and got in the standby line for the Cirque Du Solie show Mistere' . Excellent show, and usually sold out far in advance, but if you get in the standby line, you have a good chance of seeing it. If you are a Sci Fi fan, there is the Star Trek experience at the Las Vegas Hilton. I'm not that much of a Star Trek fan, but I enjoyed it and liked the space port themed casino. Wow - I'm *so* impressed you got to play that awards show! It's a very high-profile event nowadays. Very cool!! So many suggestions for what to do in Vegas! I really appreciate it! I've decided to find out if I could hang out in a wedding chapel and serve as a witness on the Saturday night I'll be there - it'll be St. Patrick's Day, so I'm sure there's potential for some fun drunken nuptials. I returned the giant Limahl head to the obviously stoned guys who sent it to me. How the hell can you confuse Limahl with Thomas Dolby?!?! Who the hell would want to buy a giant Limahl head?!?! (Brian, that explains their description of the poster being different from the one I received...) Now I have the theme to "The Neverending Story" in my head. Yikes! Cheers, Melissa - -- Melissa R.
