Hi, All the world's a stage. Only now it seems that all the worlds also a shop. Check the link below. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/subst/associates/join/associates.html/ref=as_m_01/103-4081787-3082225 Still - if TMDR sold his own records via amazon on his site he could in theory get up to 15% of the sale value for forwarding customers to Amazon!!! but here is the strange thing ........ in theory so could we....... Doesn't seem right somehow.... If you developed the definitive BRITNEY SPEARS site you could be quids in! [for about six months ] :-) Any comments anyone? Should we all be becoming 'Associates of Amazon' and putting links in our own sites to TMDRS records and then making money from sales of his music this way? There is something about this idea that I am not happy with. It just doesn't seem right some how. the link again is below - what do you think about this approach? http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/subst/associates/join/associates.html/ref=as_m_01/103-4081787-3082225 In short Amazon pay you a percentage of the sales generated from your site - but where does this leave Thomas? Is it morally OK to make money this way from his music? Its a genuine phillosophical question. Surely the artist should have some say in this ? Finally to close.........maybe there is a beatnik opportunity here? Your thoughts on this moral issue......... p.s. the 'Hammers' stuffed Man United in the FA cup - I'm down with that! By the way I heard that the trophy room at Upton Park was broken into by theives the other week, who stole the entire contents. The police are looking for two men with a rolled up claret and blue carpet. :-). West Ham 1 Fulham 0 at Wembley Stadium - those were the days...... - -- Tim Hudson tim_hudson@zdnetonebox.com - email ___________________________________________________________________ To get your own FREE ZDNet Onebox - FREE voicemail, email, and fax, all in one place - sign up today at http://www.zdnetonebox.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Feb 2001 09:49:04 -0700 From: "Keith Stansell" Subject: Re: Alloy: Promoting TMDR for a profit - I think its dodgy. I used to work for a dot-com company and that was part of the way we made money (not a lot - it is now a FORMER dot-com). Any link on our site that went to a merchant would win us a percentage of sales that person made. We even got a few cents whenever anyone made a search on snap.com from our site. It is a easy and cheep way for companies like Amazon.com to advertise. They only pay for the advert if a purchase is made. Just remember, the percentage you make from the sale isn't coming out of TMDR's pocket, it is from Amazon's pocket. The money TMDR makes off a sale of The Golden Age of Wireless is likely the same if you bought it from Amazon or Wal-Mart. Amazon will gladly pay the percentage because the people you send to their site and who make a purchase are more likely to purchase more from them (and next time, they will not use your link), and they will be on Amazon's mailing list (if they choose to be). So, to clear your conscious, you're not making money from TMDR's work, you're making money promoting TMDR's work. - -Keith - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tim Hudson" To: Sent: Thursday, February 01, 2001 8:30 AM Subject: Alloy: Promoting TMDR for a profit - I think its dodgy. > > Hi, > > All the world's a stage. > > Only now it seems that all the worlds also a shop. > > Check the link below. > > http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/subst/associates/join/associates.html/ref= as_m_01/103-4081787-3082225 > > Still - if TMDR sold his own records via amazon on his site he could > in theory get up to 15% of the sale value for forwarding customers to > Amazon!!! > > but here is the strange thing ........ > > in theory so could we....... > > Doesn't seem right somehow.... > > If you developed the definitive BRITNEY SPEARS site you could be quids > in! Many thanks to Tim Hudson for kindly sending me this beautiful photograph and the article it goes with (.net Magazine, March 1998, with interview by Chris Marlowe... but no photographer is credited, much to my disappointment) I've made links to 'Thomas Watch' at the FES when an event or speaking engagement is coming up... though all of my links were supposed to be pale yellow, and one of them didn't publish that way... Please forgive/ignore my HTML errors. I ran the 'clean up html' function before publishing, but I see now that Dreamweaver doesn't account for the fact that my computer is possessed by Satan. I can easily update this calendar, so please let me know if I've left out any significant events you'd like mentioned! xxxxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Feb 2001 20:14:51 -0700 From: "Keith Stansell" Subject: Re: Alloy: new February Calendar Robin and all, According to the Thomas Watch at ThomasDolby.com, he will be "Performing at NHL Allstar Game" on Saturday the 3rd. here in Denver. I need some details about where this is going to be. Sure wish there could be some Colorado Alloy Contigent lunch or something. The AllStar game is on the 4th, so I'm trying to find where it is he will be on Saturday. - -Keith Stansell Denver - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robin" To: "Alloy" Sent: Thursday, February 01, 2001 6:53 PM Subject: Alloy: new February Calendar > > The new February Alloy Calendar is now up @ > > http://www.robinthurlow.addr.com/AlloyCalendarFeb2001.htm > > The image may take a little while longer than usual to come up because I left > it at a high resolution - but it's well worth the time!
