Don't worry, Thomas was aware this might happen, and wants all members to have a chance to hear it! There are a couple of details I need to clarify before going about the next stage of the file's distribution, I want to be sure I understand everything perfectly before starting this. Remember you're in good company too, there are some members who still have not returned to their email as of today (Alloy posts are still being bounced back to me from 'disabled' accounts, which commonly happens over the holidays) And very importantly, THANK YOU to those who are sending donations to War Child. I've just received the very first check yesterday, and will continue collecting them until we have enough to send over to my contact at the War Child foundation. I'll keep everyone posted on how much we've raised! xxxxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: 27 Dec 2000 09:02:23 -0800 From: mde@stanfordalumni.org Subject: Alloy: Re: alloy-digest V5 #309 everyone... Melissa asked what had happened to some of the 'old timers.' Well, I'm still here, just lurking more than posting. My last flurry of Alloy mail activity was around the beginning of December, in relation to the US election. Had I replied to this yesterday I'd have said that everything is OK here, but our washing machine blew up today which put a damper on things somewhat. Still that's better than last year when the TV and fridge/freezer both died on us just BEFORE Christmas. Christmas has been reasonably quiet, which is just the way I like it, and I'm not due back at work until next Thursday, so I'm chilling as much as possible. We're still enjoying our new house, but there's still a lot of work to do, mostly decorating. I'm also beginning to think about what I can do with the gardens. The front one doesn't need a lot doing to it, as it already has mature roses all over it, so it's just maintenance, but the back is a different matter. At the moment it's mainly grass (with a lot of little holes where the local squirrels have been burying nuts), so it's a bit of a blank canvas really. This is a long term project which I'm looking forward to, unlike the decorating which is a necessary chore. Right now I'm enjoying watching the squirrels going about their business, collecting the peanuts we throw out for them, as well as all the birds which are visiting the newly installed feeders. I'm still not back on my bike yet, but the sciatica's pretty much under control most of the time, so I'm hoping to start cycling again when the weather improves. Work wise, I'm as busy as ever. We're about to start a big building refurbishment, so the next few months will be spent moving PCs and peripherals from floor to floor while that takes place. This is in addition to my usual network management and helpdesk duties, and I'm also expecting to take on more responsibility for our intranet. That about sums it up for me for now. Best wishes to all the Alloyed for the New Year. It only seems like a couple of months since we were discussing the millennium celebrations. This feels like the fastest year I've ever experienced. I've always thought if I ever have my own back garden I'll do all kinds of fun things with it! Some of the things I've thought up are making a maze to walk on (even a little one, out of mosaic tiles or stones), making a little meditative flower patch/sitting area, or making a tree house or other type of little escape place to draw or write letters in. No matter which we went with, a hammock would definitely have to be involved - Dave has always wanted one :) What sorts of ideas do you have for your garden? When I had a birdfeeder, we got lots of sparrows & they were such savages! They battled over the food sounce and ended up completely destroying the feeder in a matter of weeks. Your squirrels, are they the little red ones, or the big grey ones? forever curious!! Robin T ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V5 #311 ***************************
