Thank you VERY much Thomas, that's the best Christmas prezzie I've had for years! The 17MB took only five to ten minutes on our new work connection - very impressive. Some good stuff on there - especially the Goodbye Cruel World, the trumpet one and the early Aliens ate my Buick bits. Nice MP3 encoding too. Now... how on Earth am I going to get this 17MB home? Damn this computer industry for not properly replacing the old floppies! I really like the thought of that 'Golden Age of Tape Baking' cover picture, LOL She Blinded Me With Home Science indeed. Let's hope it's not followed up by The Flat Reel or Aliens Ate My Mastertape. Oh dear that just pegged the Lame-o-Meter over to full-scale. Hmmm. Anyhow, I assume a cheque in Sterling will be OK if it's eventually heading back accross the Atlantic again? Right, time to listen a second time... Hoping that Thomas enjoyed his bake-n-preserve so much, and raises enough funds that it becomes the start of a habit... :o) Cheers, have a Great One, +AndyJ+ - ---------------------------------------------------------------- Get your free email from AltaVista at http://altavista.iname.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Dec 2000 12:48:59 -0000 From: "Diva" <diva@tn.prestel.co.uk> Subject: Alloy: Hoist by my own petard! Well, I've never been so glad to be hoist by my own petard - having ranted about how Thomas should put his music online and make us pay for it, he's gone one better and made it a charity deal. Naturally, I now have to prove that I meant it when I said I'd pay, so Robin, expect a letter from the UK! Thank you very much Thomas, this is really really lovely, and thank you to Robin for helping it to happen. Like everyone else I feel genuinely touched that you should make the effort to do this for us. As a fan - this is like a dream come true to hear your own private outtakes. All we do is sit around here asking questions and making all kinds of ridiculous comments [well I speak for myself] and yet you can do something immensely amazing for us like this. I'm really touched and moved. I've got #15 quid in my wallet which is no use here in Luxembourg and so I'll post it off to Robin I promise. I hope you have a really fun joyous Christmas. I've hogged the list way too much since I joined and I apologise about that - but I couldn't let this occasion go by without saying thanks. We are all very privileged - and I promise to respect your request not to distribute this in any way or seek to profit from your generosity. Many thanks Thomas. Many thanks to Robin too. Tim in Luxembourg. p.s. Why did the man with one hand cross the road ? To get to the second hand shop. I know .its rubbish Happy Christmas everyone. - -- Tim Hudson tim_hudson@zdnetonebox.com - email ___________________________________________________________________ To get your own FREE ZDNet Onebox - FREE voicemail, email, and fax, all in one place - sign up today at http://www.zdnetonebox.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Dec 2000 12:26:56 -0500 From: Robin Thurlow <rthurlow@binghamton.edu> Subject: Re: Alloy: Robin (& Thomas), You're A Lifesaver! Sorry to be in lurk mode for the past few months.. But I've been working a lot.. and though I still check all the Alloy news.. I don't have so much time to respond. However.. this demands the time.. So I'm sending you both my most heartfelt greetings and wishes for an incredible happy holiday season. Your gesture and combined efforts at making the Fever Pitch music available to us is a fantastic event.. One which, as a fan, I am most grateful.. and as a person, I'm most impressed by your generousity at having us contribute to a cause that will benefit children. What a splendid idea.. and such a pleasure for all of us. I'll treasure the music.. and I'll be sending a check today to you. Thanks!!! Thank you Thomas, and thank you Robin for for this great gift! I've always been impressed with Thomas's musical talent, but lately I've been in awe of his ability in handling his everyday life. I can only imagine how difficult it is to be famous, and have all these people you've never met wanting your time. Add to that the pressure of being a CEO of a high-tech company, AND being a father and husband, I don't think anyone would fault him for not keeping up with a list like this. But he does, and there are also many accounts of him personally repling to questions posed to him by the likes of us. Taking the time to personally create this file for us is just extrordinay. History is filled with great artists who seem to be pretty unpleasent people. I feel very lucky that the person behind the music I love is also someone I can respect and admire as a human being. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Dec 2000 18:35:19 -0500 From: Robin Thurlow <rthurlow@worldshare.net> Subject: Re: Alloy: Hoist by my own petard! I'm glad you put this into context, Sally, because I've never heard this phrase before :) LOL! The best thing is, I don't think there's any phrase in american lingo to equal it. We may have to adopt it here... xxxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Dec 2000 22:13:10 -0500 From: Russell Milliner <milliner@pobox.com> Subject: Alloy: from Brussels with love Oh what a week! I just received my copy of From Brussels with Love that I have been trying to get for ages. Cost me a fortune on eBay but the version of TMDR's 4-Track Airwaves on it is fantastic. Robin, I actually use that phrase all the time (usually in connection with Liesel the Weasel, the woman who runs the office where I work). I picked it up from my mom. My friend James uses it all the time, too. I have been hoisted by my own petard more than once in this life... :-) Cheers, Melissa Robin Thurlow wrote: > Diva wrote: > > > Well, I've never been so glad to be hoist by my own petard - having ranted > > about how Thomas should put his music online and make us pay for it, he's > > gone one better and made it a charity deal. > > I'm glad you put this into context, Sally, because I've never heard this phrase > before :) LOL! I was spending quality time today at work, instant messaging with another of the Alloy'ed, and we both wondered... where are many of the old timers? Crackers, Slarvi, Paul, Lissu (okay, you did *just* post something very briefly, so you're halfway off the hook!) and the rest of the usual suspects... whazzup?!? I know this is a bad week to put out a call, but, in the spirit of the holiday, I'd just like to know if everyone (and y'all know who you are!) is well and happy. When anybody gets a chance, please drop a line and let the group know how splendidly you're surely all doing!!!! Alloy is missing some voices (and has welcomed some nifty new ones, too.)
