There was one other Robin, I've been hit on randomly in Ithica too-- one time I was down at the Commons, and I walked into a little dress shop, and this guy comes running in after me, and runs up to me, and breathlessly asks, "I had to ask, do you have a boyfriend?" I was completely confused, and said yes, and he he deflated, and said ,"oh, well, lucky guy" and walked out! How random. The women at the cash register saw it happen and asked me, smiling, "Does that happen a lot to you?" Must be something in the Ithaca water :) *B* ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Sep 2000 13:47:02 -0700 (PDT) From: Robin Thurlow Subject: Alloy: birthday list? Hello everyone, just a question about the TMDR birthday list, which I hadn't known still existed (I suddenly stopped receiving mail from there sometime last year & was mysteriously unable to re-establish any connection to it) However one of our distinguished members has mentioned it to me, so I assume it's still up & running. Is there a new URL for the list or subscription information, so I can add it to the FAQ? Thanks! Robin T __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I *am* a bit funny looking in terms of dress, though I wasn't wearing anything particularly out-of-the-ordinary on the day of the Sandwich Shop episode. (I know that some people take these sorts of styles I prefer (punk/goth) as being fetish-related, but they're just my clothes as far as I'm concerned - I love the way they look & I'm baffled that people sometimes take this as "kinky" in some way ~???~ It's terribly out-of-touch & I think they must watch too many movies!) I'm actually used to being touched by strangers to some extent if someone asks about my tattoos, as people usually instinctively reach out to touch them whether they mean to or not (maybe to assure themselves it really won't come off! :) It's a little bit of a curiosity I suppose & it never bothers me when done in the course of a conversation... however this guy seemed a little too interested in the *pain* aspect of the tattoo (though I assured him it didn't hurt very much at all). What did get me to have to put my foot down was when he came around from behind the counter to look closely at the one he saw on my ankle, and then also noticed the one on my shoulder peeking out from beneath the armhole of my vest, whereupon he placed his hands on me & started pushing the fabric back to see the whole thing. And even that was *nothing* compared with his next question, which was crude and !!extremely!! x-rated, especially for broad daylight and all. This was a middle aged average white guy who I'd never seen before in my life, and had only ordered a sandwich from moments before. Maybe the words "cheese, lettuce, tomato and black olives please" mean something entirely different in his particular psychological world. Melissa, I'm sorry to hear of your trouble & the fact that no one would say or do anything to help you! There's no way I could let something like that happen to a stranger in my presence and not do everything I could to help, and I stand up for my friends *always* when there's trouble. I know a lot of other people who are the same. Just try to remember (though I know it's hard) that not everyone is a scumbag. Hang in there. xxxx Robin T __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages & get email alerts with Yahoo!
