I'm also finding it's a riot reading all our old posts! There are some major differences though, most striking of which is that reading Paul's old cheerful and wonderfully funny posts makes me miss him even more desperately than ever. Though I know he's got a lot going on in his life right now, I hope he doesn't mind my saying " !!! I miss you Paul !!! " Along with our song interpretations from the old days, I want to begin re-printing some memorable posts from Alloy's past. Do you think this would be fun? I can start with a very funny one Melissa posted back in 1996 which had me laughing waaay too hard. Speaking of the Song Interpretations, too, I had a wee email chat with Thomas a few days ago, and I'm sure he won't mind my relating to you how much he's been enjoying everyone's thoughts and insights about his songs! Keep 'em coming, everyone, your words are appreciated :) xxx Robin T missing Paul *sniiffffff* ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Sep 2000 20:05:42 -0400 From: Robin Thurlow Subject: Alloy: Blast from the Past - Melissa's poster story This Blast from the Past is from Melissa, who is responding to a post made by Monya about a TMDR poster she's just put up in her dorm room. Monya's roommate took one look at it & exclaimed how cute Thomas is! Melissa's response is below: From: "Melissa R. Jordan" Date: Mon, 30 Sep 1996 11:44:12 -0400 Subject: Alloy: Monya Maintains a Fine Tradition Monya - Glad to hear you've Dolby-fied your living space. Keep up the good work! Your poster anecdote reminded me of one of my college roommate/Dolby poster encounters back in the "days when dinosaurs ruled the earth." (I get the impression that you must be about a decade younger than I am - I turn 31 in a month.) While rummaging around in one of my favorite record stores in Minneapolis (Northern Lights) I found a screamingly big Dolby poster - just a head shot, with our fearless leader looking quite spiffy, wearing a microphone headset. I took it back to the Russian House (campus residence for neurotic Russian students) and immediately blu-tacked it up on the only empty wall in my dorm room... right above my roommate's bed. When my roommate returned that night - very late and pretty whacked on some sort of controlled substance - she flopped into bed - lights on, clothes on - - without noticing the new item gracing the wall. At about four in the morning, I heard this tremendous shriek and a colorful stream of invective that I will not relate in this genteel atmosphere. When I got up and my eyes focused, I realized that my roommate was rolling around, battling rather ineffectively with Mr. Dolby's head, which had slipped off the wall and was smothering the pixie-sized woman. The only printable thing I recall her saying was: "Omigod! Giant head! Giant head! Get it off me!" Needless to say, some poster shuffling took place the next day: TMDR got the wall above our desks, and the roommate *stapled* a poster of a rose on a piano (bleech) over her bed. Cheers, all. Melissa More from the past will follow (I promise, nothing horrific or embarrassing!!) xxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Sep 2000 21:09:53 -0400 From: "Beth Meyer" Subject: RE: Alloy: song interpretations being sent to FES Hi, folks; Just a quickie, life is being particularly crazy at the moment -- Robin, please feel free to use my full name in any song interpretation context. Please let me know if the full name is okay, if you'd prefer only your first name, or if you'd prefer no name at all (you can be listed as 'anonymous') I've already removed the email addresses from the posts, showing only the name and the song interpretation for each person... assuming you prefer to keep the email addresses for Alloy eyes only, for spam protection! But you can let me know your thoughts on this as well, if you'd like your address included for publication next to your interpretation for any reason it can be done. Also, Damien, please tell me if it's okay to include your father's post, which you used in your interpretation of 'One of our Submarines'. Would either you or he object? Thanks everyone!
