It *does* sound ominous in that way, now that you mention it. One other thing about the lyrics, the line about the woman being described as a 'china doll' was mentioned as being complimentary to her, but I always translated that as being just another layer of surface interaction/roleplaying pretense going on in the club..! I love that there are so many different ways of viewing a song's lyrics! Reinforces my feelings that listening to music is very interactive between artist and individual listener. > Now, > when we get to "Pulp Culture," now THAT'S a sexual song. Hell yes. Picture me blushing when I sit here typing out the lyrics to *that* one..! :) Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 05 Jul 2000 23:36:13 -0400 From: Robin Thurlow Subject: Alloy: Thomas mentioned in BowieNet journal I've just been to Mr Bowie's page http://www.davidbowie.com to see his journal (which is now being covered by Total Blam Blam, an excellent journalist who also takes truly awe inspiring concert photos) In the most recent entry, Blammo writes: "A familiar face has joined the line-up for the sound-check tonight...Mr Thomas Dolby, the man behind Beatnik, who last shared a stage with Bowie 15 years ago at Live Aid. Looking even better now than he did back then, Tom adds brass stabs to Let's Dance via one of those guitar type keyboard things. He seems quite at home, and his contributions add a little extra embellishment without cluttering the versions we are used to. I look forward to his guest appearance during tonight's show." Accompanying the paragraph is a really cool photo of Thomas working in rehearsals, showing just his back and shoulders in almost silhouette, with his keyboard strap going across - it's a really impressive portrait. I'm just about to ask Blammo if he has any others of Thomas he can post on Bowienet, or send over to us. Meanwhile I encourage everyone to go check out Bowie's page & have a look at other excellent photos & read about the Roseland Ballroom show.
