Hi all,

Found out a few minutes ago that my best friend is undergoing an operation in about an hour to have gall stones and very likely her gall bladder removed. I have no idea how serious or straightforward the procedure is, but I do know that it has a large impact on life afterwards so I'm worried about her. I'm hoping that someone will tell me it's a fairly routine thing but I have no idea myself.

If you have a few minutes would you humour me and please think of a girl by the name of Julie Zepcevski and send her warm 'get well' wishes?

Thanks,

Paul.

Paul,

My step-sister-in-law had this done last month. It was
fairly quick and simple. A few days after surgery she
up and back to work. I send get well wishes just the
same.

Thanks very much for this, I'm sorry everyone, when I got the call I went
into a bit of a flat spin; Julie's incredibly important to me. Good to know
that it's not as drastic as I feared.

Okay, that's three self-indulgent (and OT) messages from me in less than 24
hours, I'll craw back under my rock now.

As in the Icehouse variety? Cool!

It's not that bad; I've had mine taken out (last February) on a Wednesday,
and was back to work that Friday...she'll be a little sore, but that's about
it, even if they have to take out the whole gall bladder. Best wishes to
her, though, because being sore is no fun!

BTW Ian... I checked out your page last week when you posted about it
http://www.geocities.com/folkie4
I enjoyed it very much!! Like electrix, I am not too familiar with folk
music but from what I do know of it yours seems to have a bit of a 'David
Lynch' edge to it at times, which is a humungous compliment in my book!
(hey, you know me... :)

Here are my observations:
In 'Home Sweet Home', there was a chord change which came across as
ever-so-slightly ominous. I liked the feel of that along with the welcoming
words; made me think that there could be a really introspective subtext to go
along with the song. I very much enjoyed the feeling of a darker
psychological depth lurking beneath things, at least, that's the feeling it
gave me.

Auntie Mollie was brilliant. I can't help but think this would translate
into a great PUNK song!! (I'm imagining it covered by The Donnas, a
Ramones-style all-girl group) What do you thinK? (hey, you didn't say our
observations had to be *intelligent* :)

La La La brought back memories. When I lived in a crappy dorm with
paper-thin walls one semester, many years ago, I was kept awake literally all
night before an important exam, because my downstairs neighbors were playing
the same Led Zeppelin tape really loudly, over and over and over again. They
just kept flipping it over... again and again... I was so insane after about
six hours of this that there was nothing for me to do but get drunk on
Blackberry brandy in my tiny kitchen and start writing letters to my family
and friends. The one i wrote to my boyfriend consisted simply of a pen
drawing of myself on the floor under the table, reaching upward for my bottle
of brandy to the strains of Led Zeppelin... Your squirrel story made me
remember that sometimes things get so bad that there's nothing to do but have
fun with it! (I pased my exam the next day anyway in spite of no sleep &
being drunk - go figure)

Rebel By Nature was wonderful, I agree with electrix, that sax is killer!
I'm a big sax fan.

Steel Rail was absolutely beautiful. I would love to see the photo you were
writing about (though I got a quite vivid image just from what you wrote, and
the soft brushwork on the drums... beautiful, peaceful imagery)

Ian, do you know of a band called Magnetic Fields? I think you would enjoy
them! Your voice reminds me of their primary singer, and I think you'd find
your music had a lot in common with theirs in its variety.

Thanks for giving us a chance to listen... put more songs up soon :)

xx

I tried to register a couple of names, but they'd already been used and
I was
desperately trying to think of a name that was very unlikely to be
duplicated by
anyone else. For some strange reason I had the song 'Don't Cry For Me
Argentina'
running through my head (q.v. the thread about annoying songs in your
head), and
I can never hear this without thinking of a joke, the punch like of
which is
'Don't cry for me Serjeant Ena' (another very old English joke which I
won't
attempt to explain here). As this sounds like a tough name, I amended
its
spelling and used it as my Sissy character name.

Mine's a little more embarassing than that...I had wanted to use Suzanne
(proving that Suzannes are mean mean people), but it was already used (by the
top-ranked Sissy, so I guess she proved it for me!) and I happened to look
across the way (I was at work) and saw a Chasey Face (you're better off not
knowing about that) and decided Chasey was a cute-but-secretly-evil name, and
there it was!
