The first installment aired last night & it was absolutely fascinating - they've finished the house (with all the attendant problems, such as having to locate a range of the proper period somewhere in Britain & redoing the interior fixtures such as functional gas lighting) and the family have just moved in & will videotape their experiences of daily life. I just love this whole concept. So far, it's obvious there's quite a contrast between life in the year 1900 and life only 100 years later. I recommend it to everyone here! Robin T (back On-T) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2000 23:30:52 EDT From: RThurF@aol.com Subject: Alloy: soon-to-be-published new page section I've just typed this enormous interview with Thomas from 1994 at breakneck speed (I don't think I've ever typed that fast before in my life!!!) so i could get it published tonight... but, alas, AOL is mysteriously deciding not to connect me to my remote folder for the time being. I'll try again tomorrow morning (I've run into this problem before & it clears up after a few hours) I couldn't wait to publish it though, because I LOVE this interview. Thomas is in such a creative frenzy while talking to this journalist, his ideas are just flying off the page. His proposal is for a sort of performance-based synthesiser combining visuals and sound, which he's thought through in great detail (this interview was in early 1994, a few months after his Guggenheim installation took place) I have to say that if such a thing came about, it would be the most incredible thing EVER in my opinion because it would enable the audience to in essence look into the very mind of the artist in real time as he conducts/creates. Anyway, no more spoilers, I promise I'll get the interview up first thing in the morning...! Robin T ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V5 #148 ***************************
