I had a lot of rubbish to take to the tip today, and some good stuff to go to the charity shop, including a raincoat of mine that I'd hardly worn, but which I've outgrown. It was a lovely sunny morning when I set off, so I didn't take a jacket, but by the time I got to the tip it was hissing down, so ...... I put on the coat so I wouldn't get too wet. Lucky I hadn't dropped it off at the shop on the way to the tip. My wife and daughter were horrified when I told them ... just because it's a snug fit, and they thought it didn't go with my jeans and old trainers. I thought it was rather a cool fashion statement. The other thing that caused them to collapse in hysterics was my description of how I tried to play football with a large camping gas cylinder I was dropping off, and was nonchalantly trying to roll over to the scrap metal area, only to find it ran away from me down the slope towards other queuing cars. I managed to head it off before it did any damage, but that will teach me to try to emulate the chap at the hardware shop who supplied the cylinder for our new barby. I then decided it wouldn't be the done thing to walk into the charity shop in a wet raincoat which I would take off and donate to them. Dunno though, they might have thought it was a grand gesture. > > I personally like the one with the Unlucky Al & the swearing parrot,.... I think that's my favourite sketch of his as well. It's the look on his face when it starts using those expletives that sets me off. > > Good luck with your moving! Thanks. It went fairly smoothly, but was lashing down with rain all day. The removal guys were great and packed quite a lot of stuff we hadn't had time to do ourselves. The week end was spent working out how everything works and trying to get ONE room reasonably tidy. Cable TV and phone lines were installed yesterday, the locksmith sorted out the patio door lock to which there were no keys, and my daughter's boyfriend has started attacking the jungle which is supposed to be the lawn. I also need the skills of a bee keeper, as there is a bush in the new garden which attracts hundreds of bees, and many find their way into the house. They seem to want to get in to a hole in the brickwork just above the bathroom window, but often end up in the bathroom instead. I don't mind, and they're easy enough to help out of the window again, but I worry that my cat and dog might try to catch one and end up with a bad sting, so I need expert advice. This was our first move in 24 years, and it's not something I relish doing again. Ah well, only another three weeks before we start the kitchen rebuild, a further two (theoretical) weeks for the building work, then an unknown period for the installation of the units. We might just have a usable kitchen by ..... ooooohhhhhhhh, September, by which time I'll probably have had enough of barbies and take aways. I'd forgotten how tiring moving can be, and I was up half last night tending our dog who had an attack of very itchy ear, which he scratched until he made it sore as well. I need a rest.
