I went to the NorVa theatre in Norfolk, Va. yesterday to see George Clinton and the P-Funk All-Stars perform. After nearly a 4 hour set the house had to finally pull the plug on Dr. Funkenstein since it was 2:30 AM and they wanted to go home or else he would have played till dawn! Afterwards I caught George on his way out and he was amazed by the publication I had brought to have him sign which pictured him along with Thomas Dolby from 1985. He was just talking to his friend about the first time they had met each other which was right before he and Thomas recorded "May The Cube Be With You" which I also had a 12" single of on hand to get him to sign. George remarked that he did not have a copy of the song so I offered my record to him which he thanked me for repeatedly. We asked him if he had kept in touch with Thomas and he replied that they had spoken recently as he wanted to use Beatnik software to sonify his www.drfunkenstein.com home page. He also mentioned that he had been playing around with the Mixman software and hoped that he could someday get a chance to work again with Mr. Dolby. We concluded our talk and took some photos with the P-funk master and he thanked me again for the album which was my pleasure to be able to give him in the first place. It's easy to see why Thomas hit it off so well with George as he really seems like a very down to earth and sincere musician who shares much with Dolby in the aspect of creativity although his style is truly unique which is how he has become the godfather of funk. Gotta love those 70's grooves! Of course, after having seen George Clinton perform at the Music Midtown festival in Atlanta a few years ago, I'm not at all surprised, either that he brought the house down or that he was a really down-to-earth cool guy. Oh, and by the way, Keith -- yes, I most certainly do cook my green beans with a slice of bacon. And in the pressure cooker, so they don't come out all squeaky. (Squeaky green beans, scourge of our times.) :-) Cheers, Beth Beth Meyer bethmeyer@mindspring.com ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V5 #139 ***************************
