Hi. Okay, now that that is out of the way ... a question. I came across a short snippet of a song that is "supposedly" called "Solo", by Thomas Dolby and Nina Hagen. I say "supposedly" because I've checked every online resource I can think of and can't find any reference to a collaboration between Mr. Dolby and Ms. Hagen. Not in any of the discographies, not on the FES website, and not on any CD stores site. Can someone confirm or deny this information. I know Mr. Dolby reads this list occasionally, so I'm sure he has the answer! If the rumours are true, can anyone provide the relevant details (what album is it on, etc.)? Thanks in advance. Oh, and "hello" again. - - Colin P.S. the small portion of the song I heard sounds cool! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 May 2000 16:38:10 -0400 From: "Stephen M. One day the > London contingent will have to join you... Ah, imagine the jam sessions we could have... As far as Colorado is concerned Boulder is the place to be, from what I saw of it. It recently made a top-ten list of American cities to live, work, and play in, and I can see why. The only thing missing, for me, is the ocean. (Gotta have the ocean!) But it is a very beautiful and interesting community, and it probably has a history of communes - much like the area that I currently live in, Santa Rosa. > Also, how did you get that job???? That sounds totally cool - can > you get me some bass tips off Tony L?? I applied. Fortunately there weren't many applicants! It was great fun and deeply illuminating. The tour gave me a solid understanding of, and satisfaction in, my decision to avoid being a professional musician. It is a *very* hard way to make a living - even if you're Tony Levin. Short of hanging out with Tony, my best advice is to read his book, "Beyond the Bass Clef", a collection of personal anecdotes about his life-as-musician interspersed with tips for bass players - available from his website (and maybe elsewhere), www.papabear.com. Tony is an entertaining writer - hilarious even. He is also an accomplished photographer, Macintosh user, and loving father and husband - in addition to being God's-own-bass-player! Some guys have all the fun, eh? Thanks for asking, /\/\iles ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 May 2000 20:53:23 -0400 From: Russell Milliner Subject: Alloy: About Mike Kapitan If anyone is interested, I just found Mike Kapitan's website, and it appears he has a solo project being released. Well.. sort of. I've noticed some midi oddities with Beatnik. On some pages when I click on a midi file Beatnik automatically plays it on some pages the microsoft media player plays the midi file and on some pages Beatnik goes through the motion of playing the midi file but then just sits there doing nothing. If a midi file is embedded in a webpage then Beatnik plays it. If its set as the bgsound then the microsoft media player plays it. There's a webpage that's a huge midi file archive and Beatnik just goes through the motions of playing them which is pretty frustrating. ( http://www.prs.net/midi.html ). Is there anything special I have to configure? The diagnostic on the Beatnik website tells me everything is set up properly but it still goes wonky, Also is it possible to configure Beatnik to play midi files offline? It sounds much better playing them than the typical FM synth midi player. Also, where the heckety heck is the Beatnik program? The only program that shows up in it's folder is the install program. I can't think of anything you left out. It sure was fun getting to meet you and spend more time w/ the other Colorado Contingenteers. As you said, I would have gone to the California Guitar Trio show anyway, but it was a great bonus to meet the infamous /\/\iles! Sorry I had to leave right after the show. The next day was Easter, and I played in two Easter services. Had to be at the church at 7:30am. Didn't get home until 1:30 or so... One correction for Stephen (and all the single Alloy ladies, whoever they are :)). It's Erik w/ a K!
