Hi Robin Yep, this little baby took out our whole firm yesterday and bred itself out on to our website as well!! Our techies were among the first to crack it (before Norton etc!!!) and we're all cleaned up now. If you get it, simply delete all .vbs files on your PC, delete all copies from your Outlook, (inc sent and deleted files), and reset the default URL on your internet explorer to whatever it was before. ILOVEYOU has reset your default browser to start downloading an even nastier.exe virus much more powerful then the ILOVEYOU, although the URLs that it was using have now been taken out by the provider. It may have corrupted/deleted your .jpg and .mp3, but I think mine were all OK as I had them set on 'read-only' and therefore ILOVEYOU only made corrupted copies of them (.vbs) which sat next to them in the folder but didn't replace them. It was all very exciting here for a while yesterday - pretty much the whole of London got taken out! Cheers Tim - -----Original Message----- From: Robin Thurlow [mailto:rthurlow@binghamton.edu] Sent: 04 May 2000 20:20 To: alloy@smoe.org Subject: Alloy: real virus warning!! Hi everyone, there's a virus going around that has already crashed the system at the newspaper where my husband works, and has reportedly crashed servers at several reputable companies today. It infects your computer even if you just open the email, apparently (though I'd thought that wasn't possible, they are saying this one does!!) And if one person contracts it, the virus will automatically send its infected emails to everyone on that person's mailing list. So no matter WHO it's from, don't under any circumstances open an email that is entitled ILOVEYOU ... I don't know anything about this stuff, this is the word from the top!! xxx Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 May 2000 10:30:13 +0100 From: tim dunn Subject: RE: Alloy: real virus warning!! Hello - just some further details, but really just don't open any attachments at all. Although this one can send itself without opening attachments too, as happened with round two of GMN vs The Bug that started today (we're winning!) Known variants of this worm: VBS.LoveLetter.B (Lithuania) email subject: "Susitikim shi vakara kavos puodukui..."
