Beatnik, Linuxcare seek withdrawal of planned IPOs WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two companies fell victim to the wild gyrations of the U.S. financial markets Monday, seeking to withdraw their planned initial public offerings because of poor market conditions. Beatnik Inc., a company that offers products to integrate audio content to Internet sites, asked the Securities and Exchange Commission to withdraw its planned $63.25 million IPO because ``current market conditions do not support a public offering of the registrant's common stock at this time''. The company, which offers software technologies, applications and production of music and sound content that helps integrate sound online, has relationships with MTV.com, Yahoo! and other Web sites as well as leading record labels like Sony Music and BMG. Beatnik, based in San Mateo, Calif., had not disclosed how many shares it had planned to sell in the IPO or the expected price range, but had sought to list its shares on Nasdaq under the symbol ``BTNK'' if it had gone public. Meanwhile, the provider of services for the Linux computer operating system Linuxcare Inc. also asked the SEC on Monday to withdraw its planned IPO to net about $56.6 million because of ''general market conditions and a determination that it would not be in the company's best interest to proceed at this time.'' Linuxcare, based in San Francisco, had planned to sell 4.5 million shares of common stock for between $13-$15 a share and would have listed its shares on Nasdaq under the symbol ``LXCR'' when it went public. The two companies are the latest in a slew of others to have pulled IPOs and secondary stock offerings in recent weeks because of wild swings in U.S. financial markets. Nasdaq had hit a record high of 5,132 on March 10 but just five weeks later fell to as low as 3,321 on April 17 as concerns about rising U.S. inflation, higher interest rates and the lack of profits at Internet and technology startup firms led to a sell-off by some investors. Since then, the No. 2 stock market has clawed its way back to near the 4,000 point mark, closing up 97 points on Monday at 3,958, although it has swung hundreds of points up or down on several occasions. 18:00 05-01-00 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 May 2000 16:58:20 EDT From: CJMark@aol.com Subject: Re: Alloy: Hey all.. Hey CJ, I just realized I was thinking of something you did while I was driving to work this morning. I was stuck behind a Neon in traffic and I started thinking about your girlfriend driving a "neo" and the neon sisters. That still cracks me up. - -Keith - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Tuesday, May 02, 2000 3:00 PM Subject: Re: Alloy: Hey all.. > > Hey Keith.. > > Denver is a possibility.. indeed..
