About that same time, a Gothic CD was up for auction at Ebay. And...I won it. I am sorry! I had been looking for it since the late 80's as well. The shame! But I just noticed that there are two Gothic LP's up for grabs at Ebay right now. So, if anyone knows the guy I am I am talking about, please pass this info on. My memory is shot. One last thing, and this will probably bore everyone...but..remember the scene in Gothic when Byron is holding his dead daughter in his arms and walking to her coffin? It stuck in my mind for years because I like the musical line that accompanied that scene. And years later, I heard the same line in the song that comes right after Armagaedon (did i spell that right?) on Gate To The Minds Eye. I know I am not crazy, just wanted to know if anyone else caught that. It is almost identical. And to push it even further....I hear this same line, although altered, in Budapest By Blimp. Ok , I will shut up now...I love getting into the mind of a talented composer. >>jon p.s. Am I the only person in the world who loved the film Velvet Goldmine? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Mar 2000 08:17:17 -0600 From: "Julie Sweeney" Subject: Alloy: flu shot Okay, one last horror story about flu shots... my dear old dad seems to have developed a shellfish allergy as a result of getting his flu shot. I realize this sounds quite odd, but he's only been getting them for a couple of years, and after one of the first ones, he ate some kind of shellfish and half his face swelled up unbelievably. Of course, this kind of allergic reaction is pretty severe and will become more so with each exposure. So now he stays away from most seafood, and I don't think he gets flu shots anymore. He'd never had this problem before, and he and his doctor cannot figure out anything else to attribute it to. As to vaccines in general, I think they're good. Having gone the whole immunization round with all three kids, I'd have to say it's better to get them and risk the infinitesimal chance of a bad reaction than leave them unprotected. And yes, Jonathan, the doctor gives tons of literature about why they're necessary, that lists all the horrible possible side effects ("...coma, death in rare cases"), and then you sign a consent form so they're protected in case coma, death happens. We are very lucky, none of our kids has had a bad reaction to anything beyond a little swelling at the injection site, maybe a little low grade fever. Since I posed the grand piano question, I should probably weigh in on that topic--Damien leans toward Yamaha, a life-long dream of his to own one. Perhaps soon... By the way, Dennis, my mom is still looking for her recipe!!! Julie Sweeney jsweeney@netpros-inc.net Network Professionals, Inc. (formerly PC Professionals, Inc.) Although the exact details of your citation above escape me at the moment, you are undoubtedly correct. Mr. Dolby is an avid recycler of themes, melodies, and motifs. Shameless recycler, even. Pieces of "The Key To Her Ferrari" and other tracks from "Aliens Ate My Buick" can be heard in the soundtrack of "Fever Pitch", part of "One Of Our Submarines Is Missing" has its roots in "Details" a Lene Lovich song, a part of "The Gate to The Mind's Eye" can be heard on the Japanese Beatnik site, and the list goes on and on and on. Any other Alloids care to cite a reference or two? /\/\iles PS Btw, it's Armageddon... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Mar 2000 21:14:23 -0000 From: "Trevor James Blagg" Subject: Re: Alloy: The Mirror Song Yes, the Ferngully soundtrack is available on CD, but beware...there are > two different CD's. I bet this is almost impossible to come accross now. Funny how Thomas has chosen Robin Willliams to do his duets with, with this CD and The Mirror Song, maybe he should have joined his band on a permanent basis? Do you know if the instrumental CD is also by Thomas?
