Lately I've become rather addicted to the phenomenon known as .MP3. In particular there's a piece of client software called "Napster", which hooks you up to a server where thousands (hundreds of thousands, actually) of copyrighted songs are being shared amongst a loosely knit community of "friends". Music lovers, all (to be sure). All you have to do is look up a song by artist or title, or both, and if someone else who's connected to the Napster server at that moment has that song on their hard drive, you can download it from them for free. There are always a plethora of Dolby tunes available through Napster, SBMWS of course being the odds-on favorite to be found at any given hour. Nonetheless, I've wondered how the artist may feel about his / her work being shared in such a fashion. We, the fans, benefit immensely from such a service, but it is at the artist's expense, I believe (at least in terms of their pocketbook). Thomas, if I may invite your input on the matter, what do you think about this sort of thing? Do any of my fellow Alloyites have two-cents to put toward a discussion on it? Wondering, always ... - -Dabbitt ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V5 #33 **************************
