I thought I'd add my 2 cents, even though they're probably only really worth 1 or 1/2 cent. I saw a picture of Mr. Sakamoto on CNN last night. Any idea why, or specifically why? No. I was busy rocking Anna back & forth to a wide variety of music out of the CD collection. It wasn't a vain attempt, and yes she did like TD! Somebody tell me why and what he said! Anyway, I just really decided to chime in here based on the 9:30 Club mention. Aside from the fact that it's relatively amazing that the place is still IN BUSINESS, I think it's a fantastic place to see live acts. My husband saw The Cramps there, and I came this close to seeing Alison Moyet's acoustic set, but had to decline at the last second. I understand it's a real "atmospheric" place to see somebody. Michael can probably vouch for my (same) recommendation to see someone at The Boathouse in Norfolk. THERE, I saw some really awesome stuff, and I think the two are relatively in kinship. Morrissey will be a great show!! P.S. I wish we were talking about TD club dates. - -- Elaine Linstruth Palmdale, CA (USA) On Sun, 6 Feb 2000, Melissa R. The book is: "The Worst-Case Scenario > Survival Handbook" Someone else just mentioned this to me last week! Synchronicity and all that. :-) I guess that means I'd better go find a copy! Turns out now, though, that I *don't* have to go to New Orleans with the group - the Boss (aka Liesel the Weasel) doesn't want consultants traveling about, representing the guv'ment. Oh well! Guess that means I get to sleep in after the Morrissey gig on Sunday night! I just found noticed that Ryuichi Sakamoto is performing at a funky little place here in DC later this month - anyone ever been to a Sakamoto gig? > I must go off now to study about isotopes... ::whimper:: > I was a terrible science student, except for chemistry. I was good at algebra, so chemistry, to me, seemed to be a marvelous way to use algebra to blow stuff up. :-) Have fun! Cheers, Melissa - -- Melissa R. Elaine, I just looked him up on cdnow.com, and they show him with two new releases, "Cinemage" and one called "Bttb" - both will be out on Feb. 8th. The listing for his gig at 9:30 says "BTTB" after his name, so maybe he's doing a concert tour performing this new release. I'd be willing to bet that a double release & tour was probably the reason for the CNN thang. > P.S. I wish we were talking about TD club dates. > Amen, sister. I'm still waiting for the day. I know this is totally, totally ridiculous, but, every week, when I open up the Weekend section of the Washington Post, there's a tiny little Tinkerbell-like hope in the back of my mind that I'll see Thomas Dolby listed at some local club. As Morgan Freeman said in The Shawshank Redemption, "Hope is a good thing. It may be the best of things." :-) Off to work (bleech.) Cheers, Melissa - -- Melissa R. Hope, we may or may not recall, was the last thing to emerge from Pandora's Box! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Feb 2000 23:10:13 EST From: RThurF@aol.com Subject: Alloy: Thomas in WIRED & SUPERVIXEN! I know it's been mentioned here but I must have forgotten it... Dave picked up the current issue of WIRED @ the newsstand tonight & it magically fell open to the short article on Thomas/Beatnik & photo of Mr Dolby. Nice surprise for me! (though it wouldn't have been a surprise probably, if my memory weren't being deep-fried by anatomy & chem classes) Another surprise - I also bought a fitness book about weight training, called SUPERVIXEN (heeheee) by professional bodybuilder Negrita Jayde. Much to my complete surprise, in her chapter entitled 'The Spell of Symmetry' she says she's reminded of Thomas Dolby's song 'She Blinded Me With Science' when speaking about the mesmerising effect a well-muscled body seems to have on others (referring to what she calls the science of body symmetry) Dolby's everywhere!! Anyway I'm about to slip into temporary semi-oblivion due to one project I need to finish up & a new one I must devote my attention to. Meanwhile... Monya, I'm hot on the trail of that pattern for your Ms Sakamoto style violin-backed dress, and a possible seamstress who would make you an excellent copy for a reasonable price, if you don't want to tackle it yourself.
