Dabbitt, sorry you're going through a rough time this holiday season (and
for
your birthday, no less) I hadn't mentioned it before, but as of this year my
husband and I have largely boycotted the gift end of Christmas season
because
it's obvious the commercialization has gotten way out of hand, more so than
ever... and the pressure people find themselves under to find gifts for
other
people etc. and shell out tons of cash (which somehow they're supposed to
magically have at christmastime, when we're all completely broke the rest of
the year!)

I know what you are talking about here. Having spent many years ina retail
environment and having worked my Frist boxing day this year, I have found
alot of people getting Grumpy about Christmas and their gift giving
"obligations" and I find that very sad. I had a wonderful time before the
gifts were un-wrapped and that made it a very different Christmas.

About 6-8 years ago I gave up on Christmas due to Over-commercialization and
decided to celebrate Groundhog's day! I have yet to see a frown when I wish
someone a Happy GroundHog's day! I even wrote and recorded a Groundhog's day
carol! So I guess I may be the first of an onslaught of real Commercial type
GHD stuff....so I apologize in advance ; )

Whatever you celebrate, family usually should be the most important element
to a happy day, or so I feel.

Cheers, enough Holiday Rants from me.....

Ian
The anniversary of Dave's mom's death was two days before Christmas so it's
always a bit sad for us.

Hi everyone,

I just received this week my LD of Live Wireless from another member of this
list who had one to sell. Sunday I got my AV system back together after the
move to the new house and I reserved Live Wireless as the first media of any
type played in my new house. It was nice to finally play something with
adequate volume without concern for waking the neighbors.

The LD audio is pretty good quality, but there are some sections where the
scenes jump to a projector room where the audio level decreases. At one
point, the audio shows down and stops when a film reel is shown getting
jammed in the projection booth.

It is disappointing that a lot of concert films from that era have little
extras added in order to make them more interesting to watch. I wouldn't
mind the extra scenes as long as the audio wasn't affected. I also have
Duran Duran's Arena LD and it too suffers from a "behind the scene" story
line which includes the original Duran Duran character from the film
Barbarella trying to kidnap the band or something along those lines. The
music cuts out during those scenes or sound effects are added and it is very
distracting

Overall, the Live Wireless LD is pretty good with some songs I have never
heard before. Perhaps a Colorado Live Wireless housewarming party is in
order soon.

Just curious,

What are the New Years Eve plans for the Alloyers. Are you going to party
like it's 1999, or sit on your stockpile of freeze dried food with the door
bolted tight?

Are you going to go to a small party, revel with thousands, or just roll
over and fluff your pillow. Are you going to be in a drunken stuper, or at
work drinking coffee in front of the computer monitors.

Or are you still weighing your options?

Myself - I'm going to a small theater to the CD release party by the Denver
band Apples in Stereo with some friends.

We may be going to see my friend Ariel dance with the Rod Serling Dance
Company (yes - there is one!) in our area's version of First Night. There
will be cool fiber art exhibited at a local gallery, and lots of music going
on here and there... we never managed to make it to First Night when we lived
in Boston so I'm looking forward to our mini-version.

It'll just be me. I may buy a bottle of wine and have a glass before going to
bed. I anticipate being sound asleep well before the stroke of 12. I've never
been a real New Year's Eve person, although I enjoyed the fireworks when I
lived in Europe. That was fun.

I've never had anyone to kiss at midnight. Always wanted to do that once, but I
think I'm getting a little too old to find someone now!

Hope you all have a pleasant holiday - loud or quiet, as you wish - and an
uneventful January 1st with functioning phones, computers, lights, etc...
