Little did I know that my mom had hired a friend of a friend to housekeep for her. This poor woman suffered a nervous breakdown which manifested itself in bizarre behavior at Mom's, including her dumping dog food all over my stored Dolby and Star Wars memorabilia, as well as all my school documents. Hungry squirrels chewed their way into Mom's attic for the dog food, and most of my goodies were history. :: Melissa, you have the most amazing stories, and probably more run-ins with oddly-behaved people than even me. I'm sorry to hear about your lost collections - I never knew. OTOH, the 'Gold Collection' was a bit much for a rehash at $20. But then, I look funny at paying that much for a newly released CD. At last, I was actually able to play with the GrooveGrams site, and I had such incredible fun!! All this evening I've been remixing 'Science', learning what each track did, mixed in with other tracks or alone (my computer crashed, or the server spit me out, countless times - but I didn't let it phase me :) Windows be damned!!! I'm sitting here with scraps of paper in front of me, diagrams of the lightswitch layouts w/arrows showing when to change, together w/phrases such as 'later', 'back', 'later still' etc. - very silly to look at after the fact, what I was doing in the midst of my mini Beatnik creative fever :) Finally, paging through these while attempting to keep the beat, I think I *somehow* managed to mix a halfway decent track, though I did have to keep it short to avoid having everything freeze on me (which I found, did happen, via trial and error error error). I like what I was able to get with the percussion/effects & drums at least. Rest assured mine is no contest winner - but getting to actually finish a mix & get it squeaked into the contest right before the cyber-guillotine fell was exhilarating! I've had so much fun doing this. My heartfelt thanks go out to Thomas & everyone at Beatnik for setting this wonderful contest up!! BTW if you haven't done so, everyone should go to the Beatnik page & hear the first two weekly contest winners. They're absolutely amazing. Will the grand prize winner be chosen from the weekly winners, I wonder? Robin T ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V4 #338 ***************************
