Yes, I see how this could have easily be taken out of context... am afraid I didn't make myself clear. I am motivated to find patterns in things as a scientist or mathematician. Anything scientific and mathematical fascinates me. On the other hand I am totally "illogical" in the sense that I also embrace anything metaphysical. Except for "heretic" scientist, the metaphysical areas are not presently mapped by politically correct scientist, although, it is becoming clearer and clearer that science slowly is catching up to many metaphysical thoughts of mystics, monks, and Eastern religious philosophies. These are often found in descriptions of Quantum and String theories. But speaking of patterns....It may be why I may be attracted to Thomas' work. He has underlying thematic archetype in his lyrics and titles, i.e. Scientifically --- "Quantum Mechanics," "Aliens ate my...." "Blinded me...Science" "Astronauts and Heretics" and so forth. He also covers aspects of Nature "Windpower" "The Flat Earth..." "Flying North..." and so on. All this, with the fascination of technology as the musical base line. I can suggest two sites: IUMA which keeps developing is roster of unsigned independent artist... http://www.iuma.com/ And e-music.com ... where the sale of MP3 by signed artist are beginning to take shape. http://emusic.com/ Music delivery to your desktop is one keyboard away. FINALE 2000------- In other Note worthy news. I just recently order Finale 2000, a music writing software. I sampled a cracked version of Finale 98 and was astounded on how far the music processor has evolved. Where in the past a tune would pop in my head... I would hum it into my trusted tape recorder for future access. Eventually I would dig up the vocal hum and play it on my guitar to germinate a tune. Then, record it back to the recorder and prepare a musical chart. Well.. all that's over!!!! On Finale, it goes from my musical thought process to notations on this musical processor in the computer. I get to play it back via the soundcard of my laptop with General MIDI settings i.e. a separate instrumentation for each musical line. Thus, I can generate my musical notation, hear a prototype playback of my musical idea, arrange it, convert the notes to MIDI so that I can play it on a MIDI keyboard or Sound Module for further enhancement. WoW! Beethoven would have paid a fortune just to have such a software (judging from his meticulous compositon sketches and scratches). The only requirement is knowing how to notate music and small amount of musical theory. You now can find me at the nearest Starbuck coffee shop with my laptop, sitting in a comfortable sofa, composing music with my headphone on! I am in HEAVEN! HIGHLY RECOMENDED SOFTWARE FOR MUSICIANS!!!! electrix ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Dec 1999 08:28:59 -0700 From: "Keith Stansell" Subject: Re: Alloy: Re: RetroScorpio rant! Horrorscopic You should rent the movie "pi" if you haven't. It deals with a man's obsession with patterns. Great techno soundtrack also. On a side note... I'm proud to announce that I bought a house in Englewood Colorado and will be moving into it on Saturday. If anyone is interested in helping me move, just let me know :) I have already recruited Dennis Alexander. - -Keith - ----- Original Message ----- From: electrix ..... > I am motivated to find patterns in things as a scientist or mathematician. He did some sort of 'open new window' thing which he thinks might help keep my computer from wigging out... It isn't even these little quirks that make me despair so... it's that from what I know of the software biz, things are designed to be deliberately incompatable with other people's programs to enforce customer loyalty (??) In order to get a handle on this thing, I'm really beginning to think I may just have to build a computer of my own & learn exactly how it works. I really don't like going into something if I can't fix it myself! Congratulations on your new home, Keith!! I wish we were there to help you move. Dave and I are highly experienced movers by now... plus, we've been lifting weights so we're even stronger than usual :) Best of luck!! Send us some pictures of the new place. Trying to develop a web pages that works on Netscape / Internet Explorer / AOL / Mac / Windows... it can drive you crazy. You may find a really nifty tool that allows you to create a great looking page, but then find that only half of the users can use it. I commend Beatnik for greatly improving the Internet Explorer compatibility with the player. I just wish they had an editor for Windows. > > Congratulations on your new home, Keith!! It really looks great on you. And Wednesday & Pugsley look like they're having fun on the cat furniture :) Your house looks wonderful! I'm sure you can't wait to move in. Are you thinking of putting a garden on that expanse of lawn? There's a guy in our neighborhood who makes a bizarre garden every spring with painted objects sprouting from the ground. Around the oak tree there's a lovely ring of blue and white plastic forks all standing tines up. The front garden consists of old, painted-blue and white bells of trumpets, tubas and French horns sprouting from the ground, amid a field of festive hand-held eggbeaters. You should have seen my face the first time I walked by this guy's house! It's so refreshing to see someone having a little surrealistic fun with the landscaping. Wish me luck... i'm about to try out the GrooveGrams again (my last chance!) Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Dec 1999 00:31:03 -0500 From: "Melissa R. You've got this cool Captain Picard Alternative Universe look going on - quite excellent! Mazeltov on the new house. I am green with envy (but tickled pink) each time one of my friends makes the move from apartment living to house living and home ownership. What a great holiday gift to give yourself, Keith!
