Walking into their room is like going in to a Japanese Meditation Garden. And behold if I put any of their stuff out of place... they'll snap at me. They can never make up their minds... they diddle and daddle on a point which drives me nuts! More often than not though, they eventually make a practical decision on the issue (seem they seek a fair playing field by being devil advocates), but not after they have look at BOTH sides of the issue. Needless to say, getting into a debate with Libras can be taxing to the mind. I can't tell if they are pro or con on the issue and they'll sway me their way if I am not keen in my logic. They hate arguments... they could earn the Noble Peace prize for treaties. They hate to take side but, paradoxically, seem to always root for the underdog. Never met one that didn't have a creative spark. They are devoted to their children and household to the point self-sacrifice. And never think that they are not observing or hearing what's going on... they are on top of it! Nonetheless, my tastes in music are quite diverse, and include pop oddballs like Laurie Anderson, The Residents, Julie Brown, Weird Al, The Pajama Slave Dancers (bet you never heard of them!), Vinnie and the Stardusters (or them!), and of course, Thomas Dolby. Perhaps being born on October 24th (the leading edge of Scorpio) helps. Or maybe it was all that Bowie music coming from my older sister's room when I was a kid. Horrorscopic) Hi, folks; Well, since I have a brief moment while Milena's out on a walk with her daddy, I couldn't resist weighing in with a few things: 1. My birthday is Nov. 16, which I believe puts me also in the scorpio camp. 2. Not wishing to offend, but just for me personally, I take no stock in astrology at all and have paid it very little attention. So I'm not at all sure what my being a scorpio is supposed to mean about me. 3. If I had to describe my personality, here are the main points I would mention: highly analytical and not outwardly emotional, to the point of frequently drawing comparisons to Mr. Spock; not comfortable with making decisions quickly and prone to change them when new data comes in; very responsible in general, hard worker, devoted wife and doting mother; possessor of a warped sense of humor that tends to surprise people when it comes out; avoids conflict 99% of the time, but when something pushes my "that's not right" button, is totally relentless in pursuing what I perceive to be justice or truth or a fair outcome. And my taste in music is quite eclectic, as a few other folks in the group can attest. There's a quote by a legendary jazz musician (forget which one) that pretty much sums it up for me -- "If it sounds good, it IS good." Basically, I don't know whether that confirms or disconfirms any stereotypes of scorpios, but I thought I'd at least share the data point. ...and speaking of eclectic music.... 4. I also noted with some interest that one of the small set of artists participating in the current Beatnik create-your-own-remix contests is Weird Al Yankovic. I therefore have to imagine that, at one time, Weird Al and Thomas Dolby were in the same room discussing this promotion. One wonders how many Alloids, like myself, would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for that conversation? I wonder if the topic of Al's song "Slime Creatures from Outer Space" came up? (That's the one that sounded suspiciously like "Hyperactive," for those unfamiliar with the Weird Al library.) Cheers all, Beth (who has attended precisely one concert since Milena was born in February -- Weird Al at Denver's Buell Theatre -- best use of a babysitter we've ever made...) I've even known identical twins who were nothing alike! There is so much room for variation in individuals that it's impossible to divide everyone on earth into just twelve categories. Each person seems to be their own category, never to be repeated. My love of people and cultures and symbols throughout history is what draws me to astrology as a hobby. The human mind is endlessly fascinating to me, as are the ways in which people express themselves, and try to learn about their world and themselves. In terms of astrology, one of my very best friends in the world happens to be a Scorpio (Nov. 1) and she's one of the few people on earth to whom I'd actually entrust my life if it ever came down to that. In high school, I used to stay at her house as often as possible and stay up all night playing all of the weird music she'd bring back from her trips to SoHo - I've never known anyone with such eclectic taste! She's also one of the most unconventionally brilliant and creative people I've ever met. We even designed my latest haircut together (my very own 'pet haircut'... named Turbo Scully, for obvious reasons...! photos to come on the web site...) Perhaps the appeal to Scorpios and Aquarians of Thomas' music *could* have to do with the fact that Mr Dolby himself happens to have very strong Scorpio and Aquarian influences in his own chart?? (I just peeked! ~blush~) - mostly Scorpio - which deepens the well of mystery perhaps, in his own countenance. Also along astrological lines, I first guessed he was a Libra before I ever knew he was one, based solely on the shape of his mouth. DON'T ASK!!! I'm sure it was purely coincidence anyway... :) !
