Maybe we could meet at "medievel Times" and have our pictures taken with us in chain mail and balaclavas and all! That would be SOOOOO funny! D'arcy and I could be the Knights with Crackers as the fair maiden (he seems to have this fixation with pictures of people in drag ....so..... ; ) ? But I also still like the fire-man idea! Ian Ps Is there someone in this group who may be able to detail to me how I would load a song into an MP3 file and then send it around to my friends..... I am currently working on a song that I would like to send around prior to the New Year. Any advice would be cool, Ian Ian Gifford Singer/Songwriter, Radio show host. I already have one in mind which would be perfect for the violin cut-out dress... I'll email you the image once I locate it & you can tell me what you think. Caroline would be a fun one to do actually (I didn't know there was a height requirement! LOL ) There are three different versions of her as costume possibilities: one in the car, and one in both a white and a black wedding gown. No no, wait - four versions - if you count the alabaster statue at the end (I'm thinking fun thoughts about this already... shall I claim 'dibs' on the Caroline statue?! ) Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Dec 99 14:09:25 -0800 From: "electrix" Subject: Re: Alloy: Just back.... I am currently working on a song that I would like to send around prior to the New Year. Any advice would be cool:: My experience FWIW: If you have the tune on tape: 1. Plug your RCA plug from the headphone output of your boom box/ tapedeck to the Line In of your soundcard. 2. Your souncard should have came with a software that would allow you to record in WAV file. Engage it and record the tune via the soundcard (Soundblaster is my peripheral). 3. If it is a noisy recording... you will need to use a sound editor (I use CoolEdit)to get all your nuisance out of the WAV file (you can even 3D it and do all kinds of nifty studio alterations). This step is more of an option than a requirement. 4. If it was a pristine digital copy of the WAV file then you are on your way to convert the WAV file into an MP3 file. 5. Download any of the shareware MP3 player from a place like www.download.com. Or better yet...go to www.mp3.com where they have tons of players to download. Most MP3 shareware have a limited extension use and capability of "ripping" CDs. The MP3 registered player I use exclusively is called MusicMatch Jukebox. What is cool about this player is that you can insert your photo, write liner notes about the song that becomes embedded to the MP3 file. When someone using the same MusicMatch shareware loads your MP3 file, up comes up your pic and options to read the liner notes about the tune. So, when you send your tune around to friends have them download the same MusicMatch shareware. Moreover, someone using an alternative MP3 player CAN still get to hear the tune... but without the pic/text. 6. MusicMatch is simple to use. You just have it look for the WAV file on your hardrive and then convert it (i.e. Select Option, then File, then Convert...) That's IT! I hope this has been helpful. When you do it send me a copy of the tune... we will trade. electrix ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 03 Dec 1999 15:28:26 -0800 From: Tony Rivera Subject: Re: Alloy: Re: "ring around an MP3...." This brings up something I've been trying to do for a while now. I want to transfer my old vinyl to CD. I've tried hooking the output of my receiver into the line in on my sound card (An AWE-32) but the recordings are always do bad sounding, with a bad hum like it's not grounded, though the Turntable (an SL-1200) IS grounded to the receiver. Any ideas on how to improve that? Thanks Tony,k who wishes he could afford a Phillips AUDIO CD recorder. > 1. Addendum Ian... Ooops I forgot to mention that... DO NOT send MP3 files as an attached e-mail unless you want to remain friendly with the person. That person needs to have a fast downloading line such as a T1 or DSL line and such to get a fast download. Most MP3 average around 2MG and above. A WAV file can easily run up to 44MG!!! and above. But is nice to see that MP3 conversion just break it down to 2 to 3MG at CD quality! It is better to have the MP3s in a download directory, which I plan to have as soon as my music web site is up which you are more than welcome to keep there for people to access. They then can download the MP3 at their leisure as well as MusicMatch newest shareware version. electrix ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Dec 99 16:10:33 -0800 From: "electrix" Subject: Alloy: Re: "ring around an Vinyls...." ::This brings up something I've been trying to do for a while now. Any ideas on how to improve that?:: Dear Tony: UGH!!! Much.... too much ....impendance! I can tell you are an old dinosaur.... like me :-). Personally, I would capture the Vinyl in a good ---and I mean a good--- Tape Deck if you can't afford or get a hold of a DAT Deck. I would then follow up on what I mentioned to Ian by using a Boom Box. You can also try getting 1/4 inch-to-RCA adapter plug that would inserted in the Deck headphone jack of your receiver or better yet, the QUALITY Tape deck on to your soundcard Line-In. ::Tony,k who wishes he could afford a Phillips AUDIO CD recorder.:: Same here... right now I am settling with a cheap Panasonic which I have been unable to SCSI up my PC as of yet. But don't sweat it, the new generation of PCs are touting the option of a read/write CD or read only DVD's (just in time to dump the recordable CDs, how convenient [smirking] while Japan is already on read/write DVDs) On a side note: Tony K... hmmmmm... the name reminds me of certain keyboardist from a most influential and legendary prog band. electrix ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Dec 1999 23:49:29 EST From: RThurF@aol.com Subject: Re: Alloy: Just back.... All of the Librans I know personally are beautiful individuals with a great deal of depth and mystery to them, and all of them also adore lizards, amphibians & all kinds of creepy-crawlies. However, I still maintain that Scorpios are among the more interesting signs - mysterious, passionate, intense, and generally misunderstood. We do keep things interesting for the rest of the Zodiac. ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V4 #325 ***************************
