Presser" > celebrate it than to remix the tune and do a new video! This is a GOOD idea. The singles charts are so full of bad or mediocre stuff now. Everybody above 25 knows the song instantly anyway and the kids would love it. I wonder if Tom would be interested in principle to do this. I'm sure that he is very busy with Beatnik and other commitments but it WOULD be a gas and I'm sure it WOULD make money. I wonder if it lines up with the kind of image that he is striving for these days. If you remember the interviews he said several times that after SBMWS that he was at loggerheads a little with the label as they wanted him to continue in that vein. Maybe to repeat it would be a step back for him in some way. I would go for it. Any publicity is good publicity after all and it would be a fitting way to pay respects to an era past and rekindle some interest in the back catalogue. I'm an avid collector and if the prices of TMDR material rises I'm unhappy (whilst my collection remains incomplete) but that's my problem. The important thing is to get the music to the people. I'm not sure which character I would like to be but I would be very happy to don a false beard, some old tweeds and get pushed about by a voluptuous young nurse in my bath-chair. Tom: if you are reading this (ahem...) When the record police did their show with your record collection there was what looked like a copy of Astronauts and Heretics in vinyl format laying on a shelf in your house. I have been trying without success to track down the catalogue number of this... Help! 'morning all! Last night, when I mentioned the ideas for the calendar to my husband, he suggested it would also be fun to illustrate certain lines from Thomas' songs (which leaves all kinds of room open for artistic interpretation) if a contributor wished - such as "Fruit juice Everywhere!" and so on. Some of the more dreamlike images from songs such as Budapest by Blimp would make quite beautiful portraits. So, there's another thought, if portraying a character from a video/film doesn't suit your fancy. On a movie note, I took my kids to see the movie 'Pokemon'. Great movie! Been lurking for awhile since my life has been very, very busy with family and friends and work. Still here though. On a Dolby note, my kids love to listen to Dolby's music when going to sleep. One of their favorite videos is 'The Gate to the Mind's Eye'. They like the soundtrack to the video also. I get a little worried when my eleven year old starts singing the chorus to 'Hot Sauce'. Oh well, it does have a catchy tune. Kate;-) "Melissa R. If all 80+ people on Alloy want to be in the calendar then all of you will - and we'll make it be a weekly calendar with the weekends represented individually. I'll simply design it so that everyone gets a page of their own and equal space. You'll all be stars!! Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Nov 1999 22:24:38 EST From: Spencer2424@aol.com Subject: Alloy: Cubist Notions Robin, I liked your idea of working other Dolby imagery into the calendar - opens up a lot more possibilities! Another thought - somehow or other, it would be nice to work a "cube" form into this. Perhaps in addition to the calander, you could take some of the images (like the award winners from the calendar, for instance) and print them on the sides of stack of tear pads. And maybe you could talk Thomas himself into contributing some images for a "Dolby Sensor-Square" companion cube. It would be a great little desktop item! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Nov 1999 22:52:58 EST From: CJMark@aol.com Subject: Re: Alloy: RE: She blinded me 2000 In a message dated 11/29/99 7:11:45 PM, RThurF@aol.com writes: << everyone gets a page of their own and equal space. I stumbled onto a double cd set of 80s.. and guess who's first up!? TMDR with "Science" Of course.. I bought it.. and listened to it today on my drive from Miami to Orlando.. That song still sounds great.. production is excellent.. lyrics so enjoyable. I know it seems to be the one song that people here at Alloy might be a bit tired of.. but I hadn't heard it in quite awhile.. and it still sounds wonderful! Thanks again... Thomas! Ciao for now.. Mark ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Nov 1999 23:08:24 EST From: RThurF@aol.com Subject: Alloy: Sleepy Hollow (and my longing for Thomas' music for films...) Just thought I'd mention, we just came in from seeing Sleepy Hollow! Ichabod Crane's gadgets were wonderful, the costumes gorgeous (I must try making a version of Katerina's ice-velvet embroidered riding cloak). The scenes with the Horseman were filmed very well and I thought they were *extremely* frightening & often quite disturbing (don't let any small children see this movie EVER) I was especially impressed by the Horseman's swordwork. I watched for him in the credits... turns out, one of the guys playing him was none other than Ray Park, who also impressed me when he played Darth Maul in the recent Star Wars movie as you'll remember (two men play the Horseman in his headless state... Ray Park for the swordsmanship scenes, and another guy for the riding scenes, doubtlessly, and an expert horseman by the look of it) The music was beautiful - Danny Elfman has his score fully orchestrated, together with a London boy's choir. Of course... whenever I see any movie with a score that I love, it only makes me think with longing about Thomas' beautiful film scores. Then it makes me start whining to myself how much I wish I could sit in a dark theater listening to those huge speakers spilling out some colossal thing he's written! I still think the best way to listen to Thomas' work is in absolute darkness (as I have done since I was a teenager - lying on the floor of my room with my head propped between the stereo speakers - I didn't have headphones :) and being able to just lose myself completely in his voice and music. A movie theater is really one of the most perfect places to hear music, I think, based on this. ::sigh!:: Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Nov 1999 00:07:41 EST From: RThurF@aol.com Subject: Re: Alloy: Cubist Notions In a message dated 11/29/99 10:27:45 PM Eastern Standard Time, Spencer2424@aol.com writes: :: Another thought - somehow or other, it would be nice to work a "cube" form into this. I don't know how expensive it would be to get a bunch printed up with pictures on the sides. Does anyone know? Any other cube concepts out there to toss around? Maybe the calendar could be printed like the cube he wore in the 'Hyperactive' video, with tear-off pages all around? then the month can be printed on one 'face' of it, and each of the other faces can have an Alloy member image on it. Hmmmm...... As far as Thomas contributing images, he seems to have a lot on his hands and I'm not sure if he'd be able to take on anything else creatively. For crackers' sake though, maybe Thomas might surprise us with one of those rumored 'Beverly Hills housewife' costume photographs - I know I'd be so surprised, I might never recover!
