Just before I read Craig's post, I found this snippet in a band interview on the www.vigilante.co.uk website: >Steve: "Where do you and the name MULU come from? You sound like definite scousers to me." >Laura: "I'm originally from Bolton but after 23 years in Liverpool I suppose I'm a scouser. The name comes from a Thomas Dolby record; he's one of Alan's heroes, but people keep coming up to us and telling us about MULU of the rainforest and other strange things..." Their cd is available on cdnow.com (pretty inexpensive at under 11 bucks), and, amusingly enough, the band blurb says "Named for a South American tribe..." Now, I always assumed that Mulu, in the Thomas Dolby song, referred to some people/some place in South America. Then, when I started working for Goodwill's international division, I found out about the Mulu rainforest in Saraway from one of my Malaysian colleagues. I thought that was really cool, even if totally unrelated to what Our Fearless Leader was writing about. I need to run errands, but I don't want to venture out into the post-Thanksgiving traffic (I live off the main road between two shopping malls - this is hell season for me). Happy weekend, all, Cheers, Melissa, who once knew a guy named Kevin from Bolton... - -- Melissa R. Forgive me while I go bang my head against the wall (and then I'll take some of those mind-improving herbs, whatever they're called...) - - Melissa - -- Melissa R. On a totally different note... I just watched a wonderful little movie called "Still Crazy." I think someone out here may have recommended to Alloy in the relatively recent past. Slarv, could it have been you? You come to mind first, since Jimmy Nail has a wonderful role in the flick. A sweet film, and I'm glad I lived in Europe long enough to know all the UK band names they mention in the film. (I smiled to myself when I heard Status Quo referred to as "Quo" - having been tortured every day for 4 months by the Russian bar band that practiced under my bedroom window in Krasnodar, trying to perfect their interpretation of "You're In The Army Now".) Uncle Sam does the best he can, Melissa P.S. - note to Crackers - if you haven't seen the movie "Free Enterprise" yet, you MUST rent it now. You will appreciate this film, in particular, a special date noted in the credits. I thought of you when I saw this certain line roll across the screen on Turkey Day. :-) - -- Melissa R.
