(Bride of Aliens) Dear Alloy, A little over a year ago, Lee Jackson and I conspired to put the original Aliens Ate My Birthday Cake on CD. I provided the files - he did the mastering. A few days ago I had the opportunity to play his cleaned up version of Cruel in sync with mine from Bride of Aliens. As far as the quality of Monya's voice is concerned, Lee's version is far superior. Mine is rife with digital artifacts. If Lee had taken the time to edit out all the bumps and pops and thuds like I did, then certainly his version would have made it to the final version of BOAAMBC. I am sorry, Lee, that I didn't notice your fine work until now. :-( The original greetings, for a variety of reasons, is the only track from Lee's work that made it to BOAAMBC. In another "Bride of" related item: I noticed a typo in the documentation. Again, my fault I think. Track 1, BDay3 Greetings, "Backing track is from the rare EMI UK D5 CDMT 71 2035 032.", should read EMI UK CD5 CDMT 71 2035 032. ^^ ^^^ My bad. It's that time of year again for all those Christmas concerts.... To all those UK. 80's nutters out there (You know who you are!), Duran Duran are due to play Earls Court London on December 8th. It will be their only European show this time around as the basis for touring has been the US. Their press office said that their latest show had been so well received in the States that they wanted to give their U.K. fans a treat by performing it over here. There's even a whispering that the old Taylor school may be back to perform a few tracks! I managed to snap up 5 tickets for block BB smack in the centre....Can't wait. If any of our Alloy 80's children can get hold of tickets for this one off spectacular then maybe we could meet up for a drink or three just before the event. I'm one of a few of us that hasn't actually met any of the group to date. This may be an opportunity to good to miss! There's a piccy there Robin ;-) :: Thanks for the referral... I hadn't seen this page before (or the picture!! :) I really like hearing about the creative energies that go into such things as composing a film score or the music for an interactive game. To me it seems to cross over from music into a completely new art form incorporating the imaginative aspects of visual/spatial design, sculpture or painting, psychology, etc, all mixed in. I like the description of writing a film score as being a 'non-linear' craft. One question which just occured to me this second - does anyone know if Leonardo DaVinci ever formally composed music? Since his own art was also such a combination of different elements which each inspired and filled out the next, composition seems like it would have been natural for him at least to try. I know he did study the lyra (an early instrument, of which he designed and made several) and that he easily improvised both music and lyrics, and that his musical accomplishment was the reason he was initially summoned to Milan. In his notebooks he frequently compared the proportions of painting, architecture and sculpture to the harmonies of music. I wonder if he ever composed anything that might still be in existence? HMM..! Thanks again Andy..! I'm saving the printout of this article in my scrapbook :) Robin T running off for the rinse cycle! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Nov 1999 23:45:31 EST From: RThurF@aol.com Subject: Re: Alloy: Found a crowbar and a drill... It all seems pretty surreal now. :: I had nowhere near the view you did!! but I do remember being in NY at the time, and all those 'pieces of the wall' that came to be on sale everywhere. The symbolism of that is just beyond bizarre. I think the ones with grafitti fragments were more expensive than just the blank chunks! As for The Wall concert in Berlin at which Thomas performed... I think I've mentioned that Dave's friend Mary Rodena was there in the audience for the show. She happened to be in Germany touring at the time as the vocalist in a blues act, and taking in German cinema which she was studying. I'm sure the show must have been a huge treat for her... and I'm just glad the concert was filmed so that the rest of us can still see it. I'm so proud to see Thomas on that stage, kicking some musical ass! off to go grocery shopping at the stroke of midnight - Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Nov 1999 21:26:54 -0800 (Pacific Standard Time) From: Brian Clayton Subject: Re: Alloy: new page to see?! + Just my luck.
