Once more a shocker from Crackers! :-) And I though _I_ was electric! This is INDEED a very creative digital Stephen Hawking-ness ditty! The outter space Monya De vocal just about brings about chills in my psyche! Is there anybody out there in the galaxy listening?!! Hell..oooooooo??!!!! (( I put chills in a psyche??? That absolutely makes my whole weekend! Actually, DEVO is doing at least part of the soundtrack; Computer Gaming World reported that 4 previously unreleased 1982-era DEVO songs will be released as part of Interstate '82. It's scheduled to ship in mid-November, but as with any other computer game, there's many a slip twixt cup and lip... I recall (perhaps incorrectly) that one of our US members found this very item while on a trip to Ireland and purchased it in ignorance of the difference in signal formats. (Understandable, as the cassettes are identical.) I do not remember who that was, however. Apart from all the work I did trying to clean up the vocal tracks (which I thought was impressive until I heard what Miles was able to do) the rest of the song took me all of 15 minutes to slap together and record (not counting the time it took to cut and paste in Monya's part). I had a bass track similar to the one in the song but I cut it because Monya's track suffer's a fate that befalls many accapella recordings that don't use an instrumental ghost track, pitch drift. But it wasn't too bad, the song ends only around a semi-tone higher than it began. But I was having a hard time incrimenting the bass track to match and I found it just sounded freakier with only Monya's voice as a melodic contribution. The speech synth I used is called "Smooth Talker", it's for the Atari ST computer. You can find it on any of the Atari ST FTP archives. It gives you a fare amount of control over the voice settings. You have to do some creative spelling though to get some words to come out right.
