Please post the URL directly to everyone at Alloy the moment you see anything Dolby-related, why should it have to go through me.. (??) I've just been posting whatever news comes my way, which is what everyone else should do too! There've never been any dibs on this stuff nor would I ever want there to be. Bring on the news. I wear very sturdy boots so you dont ever have to worry about stepping on any of my toes :) Anyway, I've had a car roll over my foot before & nothing happened. One Sunday there was music being played, ringing like bells, and I can remember walking alone in my grandparents' garden all dressed up & listening to it, seeing all the things in the garden and everything seeming so HUGE, including the sound of the bells. The way the notes in Thomas' piece echo together, as well as the manner and pacing of the composition itself, remind me of that other long ago Sunday. I noticed this piece was playing on the FES last Sunday too & I wanted to mention this then as well but didn't get the chance to. Will this now be our Sunday music? :: big smile ! :: Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Sep 1999 00:39:04 -0400 From: MacSuirtain Subject: Alloy: Fun Fan Interaction - Alan Parsons and the Guys - OT So, I went to hear the Alan Parsons Project tonight in Baltimore. What the heck, eh? I thought it would be fun. It was in a little club in the 'burbs. There were maybe 20 people in line in front of us when we got there - long hair guys, grey-haired grannies and gramps (for real), all sorts of folks. When the doors opened, we found a small group of people at a table in the middle of the club (which had a couple of bars and pool tables), munching away on a bushel basket of steamed Maryland crabs. As my friend and I grabbed a couple of barstools, I said, "Hey, that paunchy, bearded guy eating crabs looks just like Alan Parsons. Funny..." Then I realized it WAS Alan Parsons. So, I said, "Hey, that IS Alan Parsons, eating crabs." A guy at the next table said, "No, that's not him! What would he be doing just sitting out in the middle of the bar with a bunch of yahoos?" The crowd was just walking by, clueless. I bet this guy $5 that I was right. Sure enough, after chowing on crabs for an hour, he got up, paper-toweled off all the Old Bay seasoning on his hands, and then just strolled through the crowd up on stage. I just about fell over laughing - most of the people there had no clue the Average Joe in the baggy shorts, polo shirt, and sneakers was the main attraction! Turns out a handful of his fans in Baltimore had sent him e-mail, inviting him and the band to join them for a pre-gig crab feast, and he took them up on it. They had a blast, according to both the fans and Alan Parsons and the band, who made a point of publicly thanking "Dave, the great guy who brought the crabs!" Neil Lockwood, the vocalist, yelled, "Crab-tastic!" What a total hoot! Fun. Oh - and I got my $5 from the guy at the next table! I just thought this was neat. I think it's very cool when a performer can feel safe and happy amongst his fans. Off to bed now. Very tired. Cheers, Melissa - -- Melissa R.
