Cage has the nose, but they *should* cast Jeff Goldblum! Oh, wow - he would be the scariest-ass Wonka ever. I have a friend who goes ballistic and will hit people who sing the Oompa Loompa song to her. To me, they looked like creepy, Warhol-esque lawn jockeys. I got yelled at repeatedly today at work - and I wasn't even in the office. Please, if I ask nicely, will somebody just shoot me??? - -- Melissa R. As many of you have no doubt already found, there is a great new article on the Beatnik site ( http://www.beatnik.com ) called "How They Did It". This features Thomas' own description of the creative process behind his team-up with David Bowie for their interactive, remixable version of Bowie's 'Fame'. Recommended reading! On a different note, I visited the FES a little earlier to print something out & found that Beatnik seems to become very upset with me when I use my printer (Epson Stylus Color 600). As a result of the problem, Thomas' beautiful, delicate romantic ballad from today, which I was daydreaming along with as I browsed the page, suddenly became 'patchy' and shaken up after I began printing. At first I thought it might somehow be the physical action of the printer (??) causing the breakup, however the flow of sound didn't return to normal when the printer was finished & instead remained patchy, almost like very wide static. I didn't go back to try 'pausing/unpausing' the music file (which I now realise would mayby have fixed the problem) I doubt this would constitute a problem for the majority of FES visitors, but now it's got me curious. Can anyone here guess why my printer would have interfered with the RMF file? Or did something else happen that was just triggered by the printer? And in closing, I must tell you that I am PSYCHED... because it's been rumored as of today that George Clinton will be doing a show here!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed (not to mention, trying to decide what on earth I should wear.. :) ! Beatnik does require a lot of CPU muscle (since it has to synthesize all those instruments and such) so it's possible that your printer + Beatnik was taxing the CPU to its limits. I notice similar problems with other music programs when I try to run something else at the same time.
