Hi Folks! As someone pointed out, my web site has been redesigned and moved. You can now get to it at http://www.thomasdolby.com The content is mostly the same, though we have made it so that every time you go there you get a different combination of photo, lyric, video, FAQ, and Beatnik composition (by myself!) all on the front page. This hopefully will make it a good site to bookmark and return to often.... or even use as your default home page every time you load your browser! Much kudos goes to Moonstone Interactive, with whom I worked on the redesign. They have been in touch with Robin about adding links to key Alloy members' sites, so if you have any submissions, please send them to Robin! If you have comments abou thte site or how to improve it, also post them on this list and perhaps Robin would kindly collect them together and email them to me as a batch (don't reply to me here, I probably won't answer!) Oh, and as to the speculation about what my "interesting news" was... I am working on a project relating to some of my favorite old songs that I will inform you all about in due course. Sorry it's taking a while, I have been immersed in Beatnik, which is going gangbusters. Best to all of you, TMDR - -------------------------------------------- NEW YAHOO! Your news now has me (and probably everyone else!) even more on the edge of my seat than I've already been! I'm sitting here wondering about the nature of the project - purely music? Music with images/film/interactive..? Not to mention the nature of the songs themselves. I can't wait to hear of your further developments. Thank you so much for sonifying your site with your own compositions. I couldn't be more thrilled. I wandered over to the FES first thing after waking up this morning and in my still-half-dreamstate, simply wasn't prepared to hear a new Dolby composition.. and one so introspective and tragic, at that... but at the same time very deeply comforting. It's really hard to describe how this piece came across to me... but I'd love it if the first three minutes of my day were always like that. Also, in the post I just made about the links, I forgot to mention how very happy I am that, when a visitor goes to any of the Alloy members' links, the music from the FES continues to play without missing a beat. I've been wanting to learn how to sonify with Beatnik - and still will - but having this is such a huge favor. How on earth is it done? (but that's for me to find out) Thanks again Thomas, and congratulations on your beautiful new page! I guess I better do something with that page of mine, then, as it appears so primitive compared to the new & improved FES (or to just about anything, actually.) I really quite like the new site--it maintains several elements of Clif's original design, plus cool icons and appropriately archaic cartography. And yet another URL! Let's see, www.tdolby.com redirects to www.thomas-dolby.com, which redirects to www.thomasdolby.com! Some serious URL ping-pong being played here...perhaps we should register flatearthsociety.org and point it at www.tdolby.com, and....naaah. I don't seem to be able to find the Beatnik control panel on the home page, though, so I can't see the names of what RMF files are playing. It would be nice if that friendly little oscilliscope were proudly parked in the corner of the page, happily squiggling away to the output of some new Dolby compositions. After all, ya gotta be able to hit the pause button to answer the phone, ya know? :) And as for that "interesting news"...hmmm, I wonder...a project based on early TD songs...hmmm, could it be? An all but forgotten page of history, little more than rumor, come to fruition at last? Perhaps we shall soon see... "12x12" is a new CD which contains 12 extended remixes of classic Dolby songs, often featured on 12" vinyl singles...thus the title: 12 x 12(inch). Since I happen to be listening to it right now, I'll give you the skinny on the tracks: 1) Europa and the Pirate Twins (Extended Version) 2) Windpower (High Power Extended Play) 3) Flying North (High Altitude Extended Play) 4) She Blinded Me With Science (Extended Version) 5) One of Our Submarines (Extended Version) 6) Get Out Of My Mix! 7) Hyperactive! (Heavy Breather sub-version) 8) Dissidents: The Search For Truth (Part 1) 9) May The Cube Be With You (3d Mix) 10) Airhead (Francois Kevorkian Mix) 11) Hot Sauce (Extended Mix) 12) My Brain Is Like A Sieve (Extended Version) Many of these tracks have only been available on vinyl until now, and are a welcome sight (sound!) for us here on Alloy. My favorite extended mix has been "Flying North", and now I can listen to it again without first having to run out and buy a turntable and then dig the EP out of storage... It's only available as a UK import, though, so check with your local music shops for availability.
