Digital with Full Audio Experience Interactive Remixes from Moby, David Bowie, Luscious Jackson and Queen Latifah Headline Beatnik's 'Sonification' of Yahoo! Digital SAN MATEO, Calif., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Beatnik, Inc. today announced it has entered into an agreement with Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO), a leading global Internet media company, to provide an engaging interactive listening experience to Yahoo!(R) Digital ( http://digital.yahoo.com ), Yahoo!'s new multimedia site. Visitors to Yahoo! Digital will enjoy a variety of new sounds, including instant audio previews of songs from artists such as Jewel and Seal, and a slate of fresh interactive remix tracks from Moby, David Bowie, Luscious Jackson and Queen Latifah. Fans can receive the full audio experience on Yahoo! Digital today when they download the free Beatnik Player. Once the Beatnik Player is installed and visitors enter the new Yahoo! Digital site, a wealth of new Beatnik sounds, effects, jingles and music clips add a rich layer of satisfaction to their experience, in what Beatnik appropriately calls "sonification" of the site. In many cases, merely passing a mouse over one of the icons throughout Yahoo! Digital will produce interesting sounds that surprise and captivate visitors, encouraging them to explore further. "Yahoo! Digital has come out of the gates with one of the hottest new entertainment sites, and we're very pleased to play a significant part in it," said Lorraine Hariton, president and CEO of Beatnik, Inc. "Sonifying a site with Beatnik content and technology is one of the easiest ways to add a whole new dimension of emotional rewards that keep visitors engaged longer, so that they come back more often and form a deeper relationship with the site." Beatnik is kicking off its sonification of the Yahoo! Digital site by creating a slate of new interactive remix tracks from top artists. Beatnik's interactive remix tracks enable fans to download and remix their own unique version of selected songs. By breaking down MP3 songs to their core musical elements of guitar, bass, keyboards, drums and vocals, interactive remixes turn a browser into a miniature sound studio. Each instrument is on a separate track that fans can mute, solo or change the variation. Yahoo! Digital will feature interactive remixes of Moby's "Body Rock," David Bowie's "Fame," Luscious Jackson's "Ladyfingers" and Queen Latifah's track titled "Latifah's Had It Up 2 Here." "Beatnik enriches our users' experiences on Yahoo! Digital with innovative audio and remixing technology," said Tim Brady, vice president of production and executive producer, Yahoo! Inc. "The technology adds a new dimension for users, in that it allows them to start becoming the entertainer, while at the same time be entertained." "The great thing about Beatnik's interactive remix tracks is that I know people are doing more than just listening to my song, they're actually getting inside the song and understanding it -- making it a part of them, making it their own," said Moby, a Mute/V2 recording artist. "It bursts the lid wide open on users' creativity, allowing them to craft new tracks with their own personality and appreciate the music on a much deeper level." In addition to interactive remix tracks, Beatnik is featuring instant preview samples of new songs from several artists including Jewel and Seal on the Yahoo! Digital site utilizing the company's Rich Music Format (RMF). Beatnik RMF is an extremely efficient format that does not require streaming and takes up very little bandwidth and memory. In addition, RMF provides a rights-secure encrypted wrapper around MP3 files. Visitors to the Yahoo! Digital site can enjoy RMF audio files by downloading a free version of the Beatnik Player, which enables the interactive remix, and contains a complete synthesizer, mixer and sound bank. Based on this - which I've taken down & is now in front of me - it's hard to tell if the initials were made by him - people's handwriting changes over the years... and the letters he wrote on my album flat are written in cursive rather than block caps. But, it looks like the initials on the record are 'TPR' ? (though it could be 'TDR' miswritten... if he'd been writing his initals on these labels all day for instance, and his hand was tired) That first one is hard to say. However, the second example does look very much like his handwriting in 'Live Wireless' when he's labelling the photos, so I really think this could be his. Did artists labelled their own 45's in those days? As demos from the recording studio, perhaps they're received by the artist with blank labels to be filled in..? (I know nothing about the music biz.. this is only a guess based on very sketchy heresay) I could see how a demo 45 would go farther for an artist than a tape, for easy play by club dj's. And though Thomas was an internationally known musician & producer by the time these songs were recorded, I know how he tends to be very hands-on with his stuff... so perhaps he did write the labels himself. Are these two images from two sides of the same record? My speculation has probably only confused you more... but I hope somehow it helped..!
