Litter-mates can make for very entertaining moments, especially as their individual personalities emerge. Of course, the fighting is quite natural. Likely enough it's really just rough-housing. Right? Ah, kittens are so rewarding. How about Riff and Raff? What do these little ones look like? That might have some bearing on their names. How old are they? Here are the thoughts of T. S. Elliot upon: /-/-/-/--/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/ "The Naming of Cats" (c) 1939 The naming of cats is a difficult matter, It isn't just one of your holiday games; You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter, When I tell you a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES. First of all, there's the name that the family use daily, Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo, or James, Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey --- All of them sensible everyday names. There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter, Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames: Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter --- But all of then sensible everyday names. But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular, A name that's peculiar, and more dignified, Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular, Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride? Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum, Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat, Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum --- Names that never belong to more than one cat. But above and beyond there's still one name left over, And that is the name that you never will guess; The name that no human research can discover --- But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess. When you notice a cat in profound meditation, The reason, I tell you, is always the same: His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name: His ineffable, effable, Effanineffable Deep and inscrutable singular name. /-/-/-/--/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/ Some of the cats in my life have been named: Beauty (a siamese) Spot (he was all black) Ruffles (after the Goon Show) and Molly (her daughter) Sasha - his second name was, naturally, Alexander Riley (after Sidney) - second name: Bleumenthal Sweetpea (and her litter-mate) Bustopher Bustopher? He has nine names in one moment, And there's the one that I never will guess --- Sweetpea, the dear, makes equivalent claimant, But sadly I say, she now lives with the ex. I never said I was a poet. Now you know why. Now there's Oreo, the cat I saved (minus a leg) last month. He now has a second name, Dreifuss: A name that literally translates as "Three-Foot" from the German, and alludes to the suffering of French Colonel Dreyfus, who was bravely, successfully saved by Emile Zola. Definitely sport, not anger. They do love each other too and are never more than a few feet apart. Last night they snuggled with me on the couch as I watched There's Something About Mary. The girl cat watched some of the movie, especially the parts with "puffy" the dog, but the boy cat slept the whole time. They are around 10 weeks old . The male is white under with orange spots on top, the other is dark brown/grey tiger stripes with a touch of her brother's orange on the left side of her face. Your female is a "tabby", in reference to the stripes. The male reminds me of that type of ice cream bar that is vanilla ice cream surrounded by orange sherbet. Cats with this orange coloring are often referred to as "marmalade". So, if the sister had this coloring and yet retained her stripes, she would be a "marmalade tabby". Technically speaking, cats of this type are referred to as DSH, or Domestic Short Hair cats. This is also a polite way to indicate they are mutts - not pure-bred. There's nothing like having an extra heart-beat (or two) around the home. :-) May they live a full span, avoid all cars, dogs, and people of evil intent, and bring you much joy and comfort. Your jaw must have dropped to the floor! There was no dancing at my wedding, but plenty of music playing all the way through dinner. I went to see BNL really to see the support band, The Beautiful South. It's criminal that they are virtually unknown in the 'States. But, the irony was not lost on me that BNL was the support band for The Beautiful South during their spring UK tour. I don't like crowds, and there were 19,000 frat-rat-like people at the BNL concert. I had a lawn seat, and, for the time that The Beautiful South was on stage, I ignored the chaos around me and reveled in 40 minutes of Paul Heaton and co. Then I spent the entire BNL portion of the concert wandering on foot on the fringe of the venue in a concerted effort to avoid the puking sorority sisters and stoned, bucket-hatted teens all around me. I am now firm in my belief that I really, really don't like Americans in large numbers. They can be very scary and unpleasant. (Even nice Midwesterners). But, hey - I finally got to hear The Beautiful South live. I kick myself over and over again for missing The Housemartins when I lived in London (right when Happy Hour was released). And, the Ladies were hilarious, especially when they came out dressed like Devo and did a New Wave-y version of one of their songs - I laughed so hard, but I fear the youngins around me missed the joke.
