Or is it just me, trapped as I am on this little island? Although I've been lucky enough to talk to Stephen & Mary on the landline on several occasions, and, if I remember rightly, I've talked to the copse on the phone once, (isn't that right Tim? It's a while back,...), I've only met one alloyite in the flesh, and that was our dear mate Slarv, this summer. (I feel honoured!) I'm looking to challenge Mary's record one of these days though,.....plus with moving to France, and a brief visit to canada on the cards in the autumn, I may have a chance at meeting more of this great bunch! Actually, I'm supposed to be attending a convention at one of the Heathrow hotels next year, so if not before, maybe we'll get a chance to see you then??!! And I still hope we get to do some recording someday,...my only problem is going to be being "sans studio" in france,..so I'd better get making contacts as soon as I get to the area!! I took a moment to check it out last night and I'm really impressed with the content, and the way it's laid out. Bravo, and please please please keep up the great work! :: wow, thank you! I'm so glad you like it! I do intend to keep working steadily away at it until it's complete, or at least extremely well established (I think of it as a work in progress... knowing Mr Dolby, I'll have more than enough 'interviews & images' to keep me busy in years to come) I'm relieved you like the layouts too. Working within the boundaries of whatever Dreamweaver will let me do (which is really quite a lot so I shouldn't complain!!) makes it into kind of a wrestling match sometimes. My favorite thing is messing around with the table borders... it gives a nice 'Art Deco' feel. If anyone has any wonderful images or interviews of Mr Dolby they'd like to share with the world, I'll put them up & give you credit in bold letters for providing them. Mr Luckey, I've got my eye on a couple of the jpg's on your geocities site (of Thomas with Ms Lovich) Robin T ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jul 1999 09:24:08 -0700 From: Kathleen Truelove Presser Subject: Re: Alloy: SoCal Alloy Choke on my bagel as I read this wonderful news. I would love to get together with ya Dabbitt!! I'll email you with my landline number at work. I work at Disney Online by the way. Wow!! This is great!! I was just telling my husband about how great it would be to meet some Alloyites. Oh, and before I forget, Robin, your site looks awesome!!! Three cheers to ya and all the work you put into it. I love the pictures of Dolby. Have to admit though some of his pictures make me chuckle. He's so funny. Anyway, that's all for now. Tilson" Subject: Alloy: Scanning Large Images A little while ago, Robin asked about scanning and pasting together images that are larger than the scanner bed. I have some small experience with this, and have been partly successful. Here is what I did. My target image was an album cover. I was using Photoshop. After allowing Photoshop to adjust the contrast (the yin-yang button) on the first scan, I made a note of the resultant contrast and brightness levels. Upon making the second scan I manually applied those numbers to achieve an image which closely matched the initial scan. Then, using an image editor, I pasted the two resultant images into a single new image. The scanner/Photoshop setup I used was at Kinko's @ $24.00/hr., so I didn't hang around to adjust things to perfection, but I believe it can be done. My results were very very close, but there were color density, brightness, and contrast inconsistencies between the two scans, so the final image doesn't look exactly right. With a little fiddling you'll likely be able to achieve a seamless image. Good luck! /\/\iles ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jul 1999 15:08:03 EDT From: RThurF@aol.com Subject: Re: Alloy: Dolby photos In a message dated 7/23/99 12:25:46 PM Eastern Daylight Time, Kathleen.McClelland@online.disney.com writes: :: I love the pictures of Dolby. I've got a very good print of it tacked to the wall above my sewing table, where I work frequently. Every time I look up & see Thomas scowling maniacally down from that photo & flipping me the bird in best punk-rock fashion, it cracks me up! I'm definitely making a t-shirt out of this once I have the cash. Use the same contrast/brightness settings. 2) Import both scans as two layers of a single image. Make sure the canvas size is big enough for the final image. 3) Set the top layer to "difference" (i.e., what you see is the difference between the upper and lower layers). 4) Align the two pieces as closely as you can. Your goal should be an image that is as black as possible in the parts that overlap -- solid black means that the two layers are perfectly aligned. 5) Set the top layer to "normal". 6) Instead of just merging the top and bottom, soften the overlapping edge of the top layer with the eraser before merging. This eliminates the hard "seam" and makes any color variations less obvious. 7) Crop, resize, and optimize as appropriate. :-) -- Lazlo Nibble - lazlo@studio-nibble.com - http://www.studio-nibble.com -- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jul 1999 18:04:09 -0700 From: Kathleen Truelove Presser Subject: Re: Alloy: SoCal Alloy Dabbitt, Hello fellow Southern Californian, my lanline # @ work is 818 623-3618.
