Tilson" Subject: Alloy: The Truth About Cats and Dogs (ot) Dear Friends, A little over a week ago, on Independence Day, a much loved neighborhood cat, Oreo, was struck and very nearly killed by a hit and run motorist on my ostensibly quiet street. Mary and I were gone at the time, shopping for dinner, and the neighbors didn't notice him for some time. Finally, minutes before Mary and I returned, someone noticed that all was not well with dear Oreo. I arrived to a scene of folks gathered around where he was lying - all of them basically picking their collective noses and saying `What'll we do?' Ignoring their indecision, I hustled the groceries in while Mary called the vet's answering service for the location of the preferred emergency hospital, and within two minutes we were gone with a massively traumatized and bled-out cat. Long story short, Oreo survived after 5 days in the hospital and the loss of his right rear leg. He's been convalescing with Mary and I ever since and there have been many return visits to the vet for check-ups and bandage changes. During one of these visits I came across the following anonymous quote. It put a much needed chuckle in my heart and a smile on my lips. I share it with you in the hopes it might be received similarly. My apologies in advance for the OT thread, and if you have read this before . . . ********************************************************************* Before Eve arrived in the Garden of Eden, Adam was very lonely: No one to love, no one to talk to. He complained to God... and God said, "I will create a new animal. He will be a reflection of my love for you and you will call him Dog." And Dog lived with Adam, and was a companion to him, and loved him. And Adam was comforted. And God was pleased. And Dog was content and wagged his tail. After a while, it came to pass that Adam's Guardian Angel came to the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam has become filled with pride. He struts and preens like a Peacock, and he believes he is worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught him that he is loved, but no one has taught him humility." And the Lord said, "No problem! I will create for him a companion, who will be with him forever, and who will see him as he is. The companion will remind him of his limitations, so that he will know he is not always worthy of adoration." And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam. And Cat would NOT obey Adam. And, when Adam gazed into Cat's eyes, he was reminded that he was not the Supreme Being. And Adam learned humility. And God was pleased. And Adam was greatly improved. And Cat did not care - one way or the other. ********************************************************************* Wishing you well as always, Stephen PS Oreo is walking, after a fashion, and we expect him to regain a decent quality-of-life. He is a cat's cat, and my very expensive decision to spare his life has so far been vindicated by his amazingly speedy recovery. :-) ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V4 #192 ***************************
