And yet, in my musical mind, the two are immiscible, and I am not surprised that the collaboration was a bust. It has been suggested that a more accurate way to represent the differences of these two artists is to say that Joni's music emanates from a more organic and emotional source, while Thomas' music is more cerebral in origin. :: You open the last sentence with the phrase "It has been suggested.." which implies you didn't come up with this yourself, however since you're refering to it I'm assuming you also feel it's true. If this is the case, I have to completely disagree with you. I don't know very much about Joni Mitchell's work and can't really comment on it.. but I do feel Thomas' work, in its essence, really does arise from an emotional source as it does for all artists. I find it all the more touching in his work because his way of expressing emotion is so unassuming, and you don't see it coming. Nor is there any overstatement - the thought is simply and plainly brought forward. The workings of the various elements within his music also come across as artistic expression with a basis in emotion and soul, and certainly not any kind of 'cerebral' exercise. So, I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by this strange description. Immiscibly, Robin T ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V4 #185 ***************************
