My name is Stephen Harris and my credentials are that I've been a Dolby fan since '82 and Windpower broke the charts here, but I've just subscribed to this newsletter thingie - the Internet is still quite a new thing in the UK. > Depends how you define 'quite new' really. Some of us are long established net heads, but in my case it's only because it's part of my job really. I've been hanging around on Alloy since about 96 and in the old Flat Earth Society 'Tap Room' for a few months before that. Seems like half a lifetime to me, but then that's probably because of my short term memory problems. Regardless of all this, welcome Stephen, from another Brit. Maybe the bios should be posted on a website, then we wouldn't have to keep sending them and clogging up people's mail boxes (particularly with mine which is a bit of a magnum opus). >I would LOVE it if everyone could send a new picture >too, though this is optional of course. Erm, not many acceptable photos of Slarvibarglhee are in existence, but I'll see if I can find one. >I don't want to ask for any >standardized set of information or any sort of rigid format to follow... >please feel free to write whatever you like about yourself, any length, any >language. One common question I would like answered, though, is >where/when/how did you first hear or see Thomas Dolby's work ever, and what >immediate impression did it make on you? > Looking back through the bio, I didn't actually say anything about when I first heard TMDR. It was a friend of mine who has similar musical tastes who first introduced me to The Golden Age of Wireless. I can't remember when this was, but it was certainly not long after it was originally released. I was immediately impressed by the originality, the production, the lyrics, everything really, but what stuck out in my mind was that Thomas clearly sounded ENGLISH and hadn't chosen to sing with that mid-Atlantic accent which so many artists seem to adopt. I think I'd was aware that he had released She Blinded Me With Science and had heard it a few times, but couldn't have told you who the artist was at that time. I put out a call for bio's for this new page because not very many people sent one in last time, but I do still have yours Slarv. You were to post it directly to me though & not the list which would have alleviated your clogging up any mailboxes. I know what you mean, I personally feel weird introducing myself multiple times on this list & having a web site for intro's will be far less awkward. The FAQ should be published by mid-week, with member bio's added on as I receive them. I designed a logo and everything. I hope you'll like it :) Robin T ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V4 #171 ***************************
