I wanted to ask the Dolby experts among you if TMDR has > ever done any acting other than the WALL thang? Anyone? Anyone? > Bueller? ^^^^^^^ That's twice with the Bueller, Ian. Have you got a thing for Ben Stein, or is it Ferris Bueller himself? Mr. Robertson had a very amusing part co-starring in the movie "Rockula" with Dean Cameron, Toni Basil, and Bo Diddley. And who could forget Tawny "Turn Me Loose" Fere? Rockula is quite a hoot, and Thomas definitely adds to the mix. It's a must see for any self-respecting Dolby fan. Where else could you see TMDR dressed as a peg-legged pirate who wields a ham-bone? - and that's not the half of it . . . He also has a cameo as the bartender in "Howard the Duck" - inspiring fellow 80's rockers Elvis Costello and Sting to follow suit in "Spice World" and "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels" respectively. Peace be with you, Stephen and Mary ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 May 1999 10:56:00 EDT From: RThurF@aol.com Subject: Alloy: Beatnik confusion for poor Robin I've been trying to figure out Beatnik in some rudimentary way to make use of it in some digital films I eventually want to make. However much I try I seem to keep getting lost along the way. It may be that the technical stuff is just above my head (I'm not a programmer!!) and I feel stupid asking, because in Thomas' demos it all seems very straightforward. Does anyone know if they plan to release a book about this, so that I can flip back & forth through the pages to reference stuff I don't understand? Maybe it's uncouth to ask for a paper version when there's a perfectly good internet right in front of me. But the internet is a 'liquid' place, with things being changed & updated all the time.. whereas a book is solid - the information on the printed page will still be the same information even if I come back to it weeks later & I feel more confident in that. Not so much of the information 'quicksand' effect that way. Learning things off an extensive internet site is like being a blind person trying to learn my way around a house where all the furniture is being continually & subtly rearranged... though I know the technology is constantly & subtly being updated along with it & that this disorientation just comes with the territory (for me!) If there were a book... or if there could be a 'prep' site that could tell you what you have to know before coming to the Beatnik site. It seems like an advanced college course! I don't even know what I'll have to do to make my films 'Beatnik-ready' but I need to start researching it soon. I think a book would be brilliant. If anyone knows of one please tell me!! Just been lurking around for a couple of weeks. Seems very peaceful. Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I'd write more, but it's late, I have bronchitis, and this body needs sleep. (Also, my right hand is utterly cramped from playing the new Star Wars Podracer game for the past hour and a half - this is my very first computer game, and I'm rather smitten with it.)
