As it was posted to Alloy I see no harm copying it here (dog damn it, you're right, I *DO* keep an awful lot of old stuff, but you never know when it's come in handy) :- ***************************************************************************** >Let's see, my current flame of nearly three months moved in with me, until my >mother wanted to get rid of the both of us, so we moved in with his family, >but now I might have to move back with my mother because I can't get into >school here unless Robb's mother becomes my legal guardian. There seems to be a problem with the sub-phase cycler kicking out of sequence during restart after a hot soak. The time machine starts and runs fine when cold, but often if we've left it turned off for, say, twenty relativistic minutes after a run of sufficient space/time to reach full operating temperature the injection cycle will not initialize. We've checked: Matter Supply - OK Matter Converter - OK Molecular Dampener - OK Primary Pump - OK Secondary Pump - OK There are no apparent leaks, and all ignition systems and computer control self-diagnostic routines return a zero checksum. It really does appear to be fuel-related, but we are unable to confirm. Interestingly, we've discovered that besides allowing the machinery to cool down for an extended period of time, the work-around for all this is to leave the bonnet up when at rest and powered-down. But we find this an inelegant (and somewhat embarrassing) solution. Any thoughts? /\/\iles ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 May 1999 18:08:35 -0700 (PDT) From: "Charles E. Kemp" Subject: Alloy: back again... Hey folksies! I'm finally back after 5 long weeks in southwestern Pennsylvania and western Maryland. I've never been happier to be sitting in front of my computer in my life. Most of my time was spent in Frostburg, Maryland and Washington, Pennsylvania. Frostburg is a quaint little town with nice people, decent cheap food, and a little record store where I picked up a copy of New Order's 12" single of State of the Nation in very good condition. I'm not going to listen to it since I do not have a turntable, but to have found a copy of this was remarkable, and I was amazed at the condition it was in. I'll probably end up selling it, so if there are any New Order fans out there, drop me an e-mail and make me an offer...friends deserve first crack at it. Washington however will not hold a special place in my heart. Bad roads, boring town, bad food, and worse service. Were it not for being able to watch my beloved Indiana Pacers in the NBA playoffs, I would have been completely bonkers right now. I got home and within an hour hopped into my car to start making my social rounds, and before I had driven twelve miles, the battle beast died and I had to have it towed in to the shop. I have been considering putting the battle beast out to pasture and now I'm even more determined to do so. it has been repaired already, so I am at least mobile again. sometime soon I will be taking off for West Virginia, and I'm really savoring my time at home. While I was in Frostburg, I caught Thomas on VH1's where are they now show, and was disappointed that they didn't mention either A&H or Gate. No respect. I also took in a bio of John Mellencamp, and as is a part of my duties as a Hoosier, I cried while they played Small Town and Pink Houses. I was really missing home. I have more to catch up on elsewhere, so I'll wrap this up. this message powered by the lovely sounds of crickets chirping. ****** Charles E.
