Security My friends, this is totally off topic, but it made me howl so much that I wanted to share it with you. As many of you know, I am an IT System Administrator with a government department in the UK. On our e-mail system we have a wide range of bulletin boards for all kinds of subjects. One of them is called 'Going Spare' and the original idea of it was for staff to advertise surplus office equipment that might be useful to other staff. However, it soon began to be used for advertising private sales, e.g. Playstations, Hi-Fi equipment, cars, in fact all sorts of things. Now, our user guidelines state that if you leave your PC logged on to the network but are away from your desk for more than a few seconds you should have a password protected screen saver to prevent unauthorised access to your account. This is an example of what can happen if you don't do this. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. Slarv :^) The following messages are self explanatiory.(NB the user's name has been changed to protect the poor sucker) :- MESSAGE 1. Author: Joe Bloggs at ED-GOL Date: 10/05/1999 14:05 Subject: Clothes etc. - ------------------------------- Message Contents ------------------------------- Due to unforseen circumstances, I have various leopardskin Rod Stewart-style leggings for sale, plus two matching lycra tops. Also, a zebra-effect jacket with sparkly green and red edging, a pair of high heel silver calf-length boots and a furry orange top hat with "Hello Ladies" written on it. I may also be persuaded to part with my famous 'Zigue Zigue Sputnik wig' (green and black and pink)but this has great sentimental value. £200 o.n.o. for the lot. Finally, a lemon, a plastic glove, a bycycle inner tube and a blue glitterly bulldog clip are available for £5. Bye for now, my welcome friends. J. Bloggs esq. MESSAGE 2. It was NOT my idea and have made my displeasure known. Sorry for any inconvenience this caused anyone. Joe Bloggs MESSAGE 3. (24 hours later) Author: Joe Bloggs at ED-GOL Date: 11/05/1999 10:25 Subject: PLEASE NOTE - ------------------------------- Message Contents ------------------------------- Will people please stop e-mailing me with regards to a message regarding clothes. As I have already pointed out, I do not own any of the types of clothing concerned and it was not my message. Any further correspondence directed to me on this matter will simply be replied to with a copy of this message. Allmusic.com still hasn't updated their Iki Levy page with the information I so laboriously offered up, so in the meantime . . . I have made contact with the publisher, Maki Music Production, Inc., and discovered the following. Iki Levy's 1996 solo album, "Lovelorn" (which contains two tracks with TMDR as co-author, performer, and co-producer) has only been released in Japan on TDK Records, and as such is not generally available in the USA. (This doesn't answer the question about "Cathexis", the Iki Levy recording available in the UK which may or may not be identical to "Lovelorn".) However, Lovelorn is available in limited quantities directly from the publisher at $30 each plus $3 shipping. Here's the contact information. Maki Music Production, Inc. P.O. Box 3275 Winnetka, CA 91396 (818) 883-9821 About a week after leaving a message at the cited number, a very pleasant gentleman by the name of Yoshi called me back with the above info. I've really been enjoying this recording! The TMDR track, "Illusions", is spooky and compelling. The title track, "Lovelorn", is very haunting, and perhaps the best of the lot. It's *all* good, and as you might expect the production values are flawless. To encourage you to purchase a copy of this very enjoyable recording for yourself, and thereby to support the artists, I have created and uploaded an MP3 copy of "Illusions" to the following location. http://www.freedrive.com Once at the site you may log into my drive using the following context-sensitive username and password: username: Dolby password: europa Then, double-click on the folder marked "TMDR" and you will see the file "Illusions.mp3" The file is 6.195Mb (256Kbps, 44.1 KHz, stereo), and on a computer sound system, virtually indiscernible from the original CD. If you don't already have an MP3 player, allow me to recommend an elegant $10 shareware program called "Winamp". It is well worth the piddling registration fee. I registered mine. ;-) (support shareware!) Go to: http://www.winamp.com for your copy. I will only keep "Illusions.mp3" available for a week or so, so get it soon if you're interested. Caveat: Freedrive might more appropriately be named "Freedive" as the server is flaky at times. You may only get a partial download before the server burps or farts and leaves you hanging - but don't worry, the partial file you'll be left with in this situation will still play on Winamp - you just won't have the full song. Think of it as a teaser, and then call Yoshi . . . Enjoy, Stephen ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V4 #145 ***************************
