I was howling out loud when Chuck and some of the christian creationists began to complain about that show because it made them look like they supported ISCON. Would you be so kind as to tell me more about this? >> Dear Miles, This was actually quite an in-depth fascinating story about an English scientist who met up with a Mulu tribe 25 years ago, staying with them for several weeks, learning about their culture and lifestyle. This Explorer/Scientist chap became so wrapped up in their lifestyle that he actually became quite good friends with one of the tribe before returning to his native England. The story was centred on the explorers return to Mulu a few months ago to see if he could find the tribe to see if they, or more significantly his friend, was still alive. Indeed, the explorer (and his family) found his way directly to the tribe without much trouble at all. Believe it or not this actually concerned the explorer, as much of the rain forest had been cleared despite it being given 'National Park' status. The most exciting part was of course the reunion itself which brought a small tear to Tine's eye! Both men are now in their mid fifties. I must admit I was waiting for a burst of "Muluuuuuuuu" at any given moment. The rest of the programme was about them living with this Mulu tribe, once again, sharing gifts, enjoying the culture and way of living. It was mentioned that Mulu (located in Borneo) is still the largest of the world's rain forests and of course is heavily protected by the numerous Gods of the Rain Forest! The explorer will return to the tribe again in five years time...... Regards, Trevor. (P.S. Kinda reminds me of the story 'Emerald Forest'. Think I'll print this one out for keepsakes. Thanks for sharing this information!! Also, on an off note, just want to let everyone know that I love English people for the most part. The only thing about England that I abhor more than anything is how the English Government has treated its own people and other peoples around the world. As usual, the government and the people of a country are separate from each other. Just as in our country, the American government is quite arrogant and proud and way too rich. Whereas, many people in America are just trying to survive and lead a good life. I know I'm generalizing but, hey, it's just an example. Speaking of governments, and opinions, loved the message in Dolby's song 'May the Cube be with you'. Would love to drop some bombs on a few politicians!! Give me some more of that Cube!! I love James Burke, although in "Connections^2" he was sometimes really reaching for it. James Burke alone is almost (but not quite) enough to get me to subscribe to the cable Specialty channels. God I love yanking the chain of Cogeco (or whoever my cable provider of the week is) when they call trying to get me to subscribe to the specialty channels. "May we ask why you don't wish to subscribe?" "Sure. I'm opposed to paying you money for a 'service' that actually costs you more money if I don't subscribe to it. It's not like you actually do any extra work or incure any extra expenses to bring me the specialty channels. Infact it's quite the opposite. You're already sending these specialty channels to my house and if I don't subscribe then you have to install a special filter on my line to block those channels, not to mention the money you had to pay some shmuck to install that filter. Therefore by not giving me those specialty channels it has actually cost you more money than if you were to give me those channels for free. Then there's the issue of commercials. All those specialty channels make their money from advertising just like any other TV station. It doesn't make economic sense from their point of view to limit thier viewing audience thus reducing their attractiveness to advertisers. By making their channels freely available they'll have a larger viewing audience thus will attract more advertisers and be able to charger more per advertising minute. So these cable channels themselves lose money by not giving me their programming for free. That's why I'm not subscribing to anything more than the most basic of cable services." "Umm... I don't have anything like that as a 'reason' on my form. Can I just put you down as 'disatisfied with the quality of the programming'?" "No." "Okay... are you sure you don't want to subscribe?" "Yes." "Oh... well... okay... but we have a great deal right now." "Is it free?" "Well no, not free, but still a bargain." "Well then call me back when it's free."
