Having said that, he's probably right. Sadly I remain a virgin in the field of cross-dressing - unless you want to count wearing tights for a school play performance of Robin Hood when I was five. But then if I only have to do it once in my life there's plenty of time yet... Lem. BTW cool quote from Bowie in the Headspace release. Anyone know if there's a PC version of the Beatnik studio yet? I'm always psyched when I think of >my next tattoo, it stings a little but is so worth it :) >Tell us what ended up happening & please post the design!! Yes, I was fine, though I had forgotten just how exquisitely painful it was to have done (not to discourage anyone out there from getting your own - its totally different when its something you undertake voluntarily, and I've had worse menstrual cramps, to be honest - hee, I know y'all wanted to know that, since we're "sharing" ;-)). And the andrenaline/endorphine rush kept me up half the night; lesson #2 for tattoos is get them in the afternoon so you have some time to wind down! Anyway, I will try to post the design on my KS website soon, so you all can see. I got it on my upper back, just between my shoulders. It's feeling fine now, still oozing just a tad of ink yet, but it's not red or swollen at all. The artist has a BFA, and he did an excellent job. It's just beautiful. The design is a word in Sanskrit, pronounced "ankah", which much later became the ancient Greek "ankura", which became "anchor" in English. In Sanskrit, it literally means "hook", but is an allusion to the human form (it also means "curve of the body", or "lap"). Also interesting, a closely related word means "brand" or "stamp", perfect for a tattoo, don't you think? One of these days, I will probably have one done of one of my Greys, but I just can't resist really powerful symbols! Plus, I really like primitive over fine line work anyway.....that black brand on an expanse of skin, it's enough to take one's breath away. Okay, now I think everyone here has heard quite enough about my little fetishes....if I say anymore, I'll have to kill you all, because you'll know too much :-). Toodles! You can find the announcement about this in the Alloy archives in early February (I think) if you'd like more details. It's feeling fine now, still oozing just a tad of ink yet, but it's not red or swollen at all. :: I remember the endorphine rush.. from the pain of the tattoo, and also the adrenaline afterward of having a beautiful new tattoo to show your friends the next day. The ink ooze always dissipated after a day or so. It reminds me though, I nearly made one poor girl faint at work without meaning to when I showed her my brand-new 'Sleeping Gryphon' (Sir John Tenniel's drawing from Alice in Wonderland) on my left shoulder blade several years ago. She saw it & said, "Oh how pretty, he drew a very fine red line all around the black lines!" and I said, "That's just red showing through the skin from tiny broken blood vessels.. it'll fade as it heals. It does look pretty for now though..." She turned green & said she felt sick. I had no idea she'd take it badly or I'd never have said it! From then on I've always been careful when saying anything with the word 'blood' in it (I think that's what did her in) :: The artist has a BFA, and he did an excellent job. It's just beautiful. :: I'm always happy to hear of someone gettiing a tattoo they really love :) It sounds gorgeous. Please tell us when it's up on your page! You're making me crave my next one, which is based on an original Art Nouveau bookplate design I came upon a couple of years ago, and fell in love with instantly (I had to redesign the figure though, because the original artist made her features look too angular for my taste.. I preferred her profile to be a little more realistic. Everything else is true to the original). It's very detailed... a female, almost Greek-styled figure gazing into the eyes of a beautiful exotic bird whose long, ornate tail comprises the most eye- catching part of the design. Almost everything will be done in black & white except for the bird's body & tail which will have varying shades of purple & royal blue. I'll have to look far & wide for a really good detail-oriented tattoo artist I can trust with it... if you hear of anyone on the east coast who is very good at this kind of thing, I'd love the information, and I'd be extremely grateful for the tip :) Robin T ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V4 #99 **************************
