I thought I'd share with you all... a dream I had last night. Somehow I'd gotten hold of a rather fabulous book on TMDR... although it was more of a very smart ring-binder with a couple of hundred very glossy high-quality inserts detailing more than any fan would ever wish to know. This thing was a work of art. And then I took the video out of the box.... Wow!!! Here was a new work by Mr Dolby... I only heard the one song but WHOAH! was it good. A slow track, with the quality of production and precision of Pulp Culture blended with the beauty of Airwaves and as ernest as Beauty of a Dream. The video was set in breathtaking scenery... on top of a rocky outcrop... sort of orangey-red crumbly rock (hint of Australia) with wonderful views down to some sparese but lush vegetation a couple of hundred feet below. There was water involved too... a river or lake in the distance. The video started of with shots of a lot of wonderful hi-fi equipment all arranged around this natural "bowl" part of the rock. Very 1990s colours - lot's of deep vivid hues, none of that wimpy 1980 pastel crud. Then when the music started there was a line of about twenty men in suits wearing odd hats. Little fez-type things, only no tassle... not particularly rigid... a sort of silky sheen. Weird. Anyway, reminiscent of the Depeche Mode video where the king figure is trudging around, this line of men (one of which I KNEW was Dolby, but couldn't spot him) was making it's way up to the rock. That's all I saw. The rest of the time I was moved to tears, hugging one of my speakers and weeping with joy at the wonder of the music, and that he'd finally released something new. Great dream... wish I had these more often. Anyway... next I was re-winding the tape and starting to transfer to minidisc. All of a sudden there was a DJ anouncing the title of it this time. Funny how things morph and change in dreams, isn't it? I wish I could remember that darn title, hehe... I think it had a W at the start. "Window to ....." or something. Next thing I know it had mutated into computer animation (too much listening to Gate to the Mind's Eye yesterday perhaps) and I was calling The Wife in to see this really cute little fish. (We're like that... we share a sickening enthusiasm for very cute 'ickle baby animals and stuff - ick! We were thrilled to drive down a lane at the weekend we don't usually take... and found a field of sheep with some delightful little lambs.... she drives that way every day now to see how they are... and I wouldn't have it any other way!). So there you go... next thing I know I'm jogging up the road in nothing but a T-shirt and socks. Glad to wake up after that! Here are some preliminary details of my collection... I've yet to fill in the details on my page (not on the web yet)... Golden Age (Wreck of F, no Science) and Flat Earth on vinyl All 5 CD albums, and Retrospec... So if any of you folks have tidbits that you think "must be common knowledge" -- it isn't necessarily for all of us! (What did they want, an image of his being Indiana Jones' kid or something?) And as for the pirating.. to my dismay my husband has informed me that he's seen two whole Dolby albums up for grabs in an MP3 Usenet newsgroup. Someone asked for one of his songs in the 80's subgroup and now CJ says he's seen AAMB and TFE go by in their entirety. *sigh* - -- Elaine Linstruth Palmdale, CA (USA) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Mar 1999 22:04:00 -0500 (EST) From: Chris Cracknell Subject: Alloy: The guys down at the pub.
