I pretty much missed a week of Alloy mail, which I have yet to go back and review. (Though it appears to have contained a bit of a ruckus; seems that we've only had two of those here, and I've managed to totally miss both of them!) First of all, for those of you who are interested, I have finally gotten pictures and info about our new daughter up on the web. That address is: http://www.mindspring.com/~bethmeyer/photo.html (along with some other photos that were already there) However, the rest of the site is from circa 1996, so don't look too closely! I should also note that she has grown a lot since then and her nose has straightened out :-) Also, I believe someone wanted to know where the name "Milena" came from. It's from Slovenia. Neither of us is from there, but we have friends there and just liked the name. I wanted to tell Peter F. -- a) Having just had my own world rocked (in the best of ways) by the arrival of a little one, I was sending my own prayers your way for yours -- probably about the time that he got out of the ICU and into his mommy's arms. And b) I commend your purchase of "Astronauts and Heretics" at about the same time -- I've found that "Beauty of a Dream" makes a wonderful lullabye! (Though you may want to change that reference to the girl who comes along, since your new baby is a boy....) Also, now that I have thanked almost everyone individually, I wanted to publicly thank everyone who contributed to the wonderful "virtual baby shower" that we received about the same time that we moved. What a wonderful surprise! I continued to be awed at how great a community of folks this is. And I apologize to all the new folks who might be wondering about this person who keeps going off on matters non-Dolby and praising the community. I suspect that, once you've been here for a while and gotten to know the group, you may do the same every so often! In any case, I do have a question for the group -- who sent the lovely shape and alphabet puzzles? There was no card enclosed (unless I totally missed it), so I did not know who to thank. Feel free to send me a note offline if you prefer. Anyway, thank you very much, all! Finally, getting on-topic (for once) -- I noted with interest the discussion of Jerry Garcia's contribution to "Beauty of a Dream." I know it's a dumb question, but: What exactly did he do on this track? I don't hear anything in the song that just jumps out at me as being produced by him. (Unlike, say, the guitar work by Eddie Van Halen elsewhere on the album, or Adrian Belew in anything at all.) OK, feeding time approaches -- Cheers, Beth ("Dr. Mom"?) Rei is just a little too bitchy for my liking. She's just got a bit of "Veronica Lodge" to her that I don't find attractive in the least (Archie you are a fool, Betty is clearly the right choice). Of course the definative "Veronica Lodge" of anime would have to be B-ko from the Project A-ko series. Rei would probably be good in bed, but I can't really see myself having a relationship with her. Ami I could never grow tired of being with as intelligent women are the best kind. Makoto would be another one I could see having a relationship with as well. Mina is too flighty and Usagi is too flakey. I think of all the scouts Usagi would be the worst in bed. For you, though, I would probably recommend either Neptune or Uranus. They'd be the best at pleasing someone of your gender. ;) Incidently, for anime fans out there who have wondered, Sailors Neptune and Uranus were not made lesbians merely for the titilation factor. In Japanese astrology, the planets Neptune and Uranus are associated with homosexuality. Note the solo - that is signature Garcia. Weir plays some rhythmic colorings in the background. Side note: Those of you who are fortunate to have the "Close but no Cigar" CD5 disc 1 have heard the "Beauty of a Dream" piano and vocal version. It should be denoted as "mostly piano and vocal version" because Jerry and Bob are playing on that one too, albeit softly. /\/\iles - relieved that the Meyers are through the maelstrom ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Mar 1999 20:39:34 PST From: "Keith James Donald Dawe" Subject: Re: Alloy: Talk Talk??! >But, I got home, and put it on while I checked my mail and it was a >different story.
