Althought the signs pointing to the Victoria line were a little confusing. I see a sign with Victoria line and an arrow pointing to the right so I follow it only to see a similar sign with the arrow pointing to the left. I deduced that these two signs combined meant that either the Victoria line was in another dimension and I should seek some sort of temporal portal to access it, or it meant I should travel neither left nor right but straight ahead to find my train. Made the last train with seconds to spare and other than an encounter with a drunk irishman I originally mistook for a security guard the rest of the night was uneventful. ~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~ >What an excellent evening. I dunno...I've always been partial to Sailor Mars. I just can't help wonder if this is something that Thomas Dolby would appreciate or upset him? I mean, do you get Headspace or TD's permission to do this kind of thing? If TD didn't approve or if it was not legal/acceptable would you still do it? I am sorry, but I tend to do a great deal of study and research concerning human nature and esp. learn things when I hear about these kind of things. I have said before (with no bragging intended here) I have friends/family who were or are considered rock stars (more in heavy cult followings not top 40) and the "get together" that you describe at his place of work would make most recording artists terribly upset...sorry just looking for answers here...The desire for privacy still exists for people who have achieved a level of fame; it is a double-edged sword that has them both enjoying the fruits of their labour and nearly fearing their fans...So please give me a description of how the concert/meeting works? Is it legal? Is it ethical from your point of you? Would any of you be in danger of getting arrested? Or do you just play a few songs almost on an acoustic level out of respect for TD and then leave? Hi, I'm totally new to Alloy (but not to the workings of TMDR) so forgive me if I come over somewhat naive. What exactly is the deal with Thomas these days? The last material we heard was on the 1994 Gate album and aside from the Beatnik tracks on headspace.com, nothing. As an IT professional of sorts I can certainly empathise with TMDR's desire to make the Internet a breeding ground for high qaulity audio, but does this mean that he has totally abandoned his musical career in favour of his corporate interests? I'd like to think that any day now we'll hear some new material from the man in either the traditional method or via Headspace in the form of some kind of pay-to-download media. Anyone out there know something I don't, or have any thoughts on the = above I'd sure like to hear 'em?! One other thing, has anyone seen or heard the newly reissued Hyperactive low-cost CD that was released here in the UK on 3/15? Track listing anyone...? Privacy is extremely important. The double-edged sword of being a well-known artist has to be a very difficult thing to deal with. I remember May Sarton writing about this in one of her books (I think it was called 'The House by the Sea', a journal she kept in older age & then published) She talked about the many fans who would show up at her home, out of the blue, to read their own poetry to her as tribute to her being such an inspiration to them. She found the visits intrusive on her privacy and an interruption to her writing, but was also confused by them. It was hard for her to know how to react, unless the person were actually causing harm (like the guy who backed over her entire flower garden with his car, missing the gravel driveway entirely!) She wondered: if she were a famous dancer, would people then be showing up randomly to dance for her to show their appreciation? I know it must result from a simple desire to give something back to one whose own work has been so inspirational... but the very idea of actually showing up uninvited at the home or business of someone you don't even know (but maybe *think* you know, in the case of a celebrity) is so outlandishly thoughtless & rude under any guise. It must place the artist in an extremely awkward and possibly frightening position. Though there are probably some fun things about it too, along with the obvious professional advantages, fame adds up to the removal of far too many basic human rights in my opinion yet the mechanisms of Hollywood encourage that artists be objectified, not just by fans but by photographers, journalists, etc. everywhere they go. Not even their own homes are truly private/safe once they've been fixed in the 'public eye'! It's so obviously harmful in so many ways, I'm shocked nothing more substantial has been done to protect them. But I guess fame is the tool Hollywood (and other organizations) use to rake in the bucks at an individual's expense, and since the companies have all the money & probably even own the government to a large degree, is anything likely to be done?
