(at least not in my book... :) I think things which are largely considered 'paranormal' are really very much a part of the natural world which surrounds us every day. The term 'supernatural' is misleading; but there is an underlying empiricism in Western society which does not allow for any human connection with the scientifically unprovable. To me it's sad that people in the West have a tendency to consider themselved so divided from the world around them, including the spiritual (by this I mean the everyday spiritual, not that of organized religion) Many societies around the globe still do take so-called paranormal in stride as a part of their daily existence, societies which have not experienced the kind of social/psychological schizms that have unfortunately occured in Western civs. While humans are evolved to instinctively want to categorize & label everything in an effort to understand, there are many more things which humans will never be able to comprehend fully. Just as scientists never knew infrared or radio astronomy were possible until we chanced upon the right tools for them ~ our natural senses probably cannot detect even half of what is going on around us. By Western standards if you can't dissect & label it with tools you already have, then it must not exist (the record industry & the rest of the art world go by this philosophy too! ha ha :) People pick up on the edges and bits of this part of the natural world sometimes, and call them 'strange occurences', 'visions', etc... but maybe it's just the way people, with our limited senses, have to see it... much the way someone who exists in a three-dimensional world would theoretically view a tesseract (hope I'm using the right term... tesseract... that geometric shape which is three dimensional when unfolded, but when folded it would exist in four dimensions. Like a cube, cubed. All my books are packed so i can't look it up to be certain this is the word I'm looking for! anyway...) I haven't studied the philosophers, but I intend to once I return to my university. I have read a lot of psychology though... I keep recommending to people that they read Jung if they have even a passing interest in 'paranormal' things. I'll always be grateful to Dr Jung for dedicating a good part of his professional life to exploring these things from an empirical (though very open-minded, balanced, and sincerely curious) viewpoint. I'd suggest 'Memories, Dreams, Reflections' (his memoirs) and then his paper called 'Synchronicity'. I hope you feel better soon, Debrah. This happened to me once ~ I never get high fevers either ~ it turned out to be pneumonia. Get to the doctor if you can! I'd never seen it before, so it was definitely a case of 'better safe than sorry'. I also have a vinyl copy I got at the same time I got a CD of the Toys soundtrack at a record store that was going out of business. It occasionally shows up on eBay, so you might want to keep an eye out there. If something interests you, you can tune in at the appropriate times.:: Interesting you should mention it, I was just listening to my Raymond Scott cd a few days ago, and re-reading about his patented automatic scanning radio circa 1959 which tunes in on stations around the country & changes frequency by itself at any given interval, enabling the listener to hear what's being played on stations everywhere. It reminds me of the RealAudio capabilities of modern-day computers. I also noticed a strange Dolby connection with Raymond Scott... in 1958 Scott (inventor, band leader & top-notch pianist who also owned his own recording studio & worked as A&R director of Everest Records for a time) auditioned a hot young R&B artist - Bo Didley - who of course is Thomas' "Rockula" co-star :) Quoting the liner notes on the Scott cd: "An existing tape of that encounter captures Bo tuning his guitar and strumming that patented chukka-chukka rhythm as Raymond banters & adjusts sound levels. They eventually perform an impromptu duet of "Stormy Weather" - just before the tape runs out."
