I first heard ofThomas Dolby when he was playing keyboard for Lene Lovich and I think the back up band was called the sinceros? Shit I'm not sure now...that vinyl has left the building...Always bought the vinyls of his as each came out and the 12" of singles. I found his video collection on a trip up to Seattle and I still watch it. He played at a club that I was a stock holder of called "One Step Beyond" in Santa Clara in the mid 80's. My husband booked the show and was the stage manager, way kewl! It was billed as "the lost planet airmen." One of my all time favourite bands is called PREFAB SPROUT and he produced most of their best stuff. Dolby was a guest disc jockey on some radio staion in England and he had to play new releases. I read he thought everything was crap mostly but when he heard a song by prefab called "Don't Sing" from their album SWOON, he arranged to meet them and the rest is history. Oh, how I wish I knew more of that story. They are quite a magical combination! Anybody here Prefab fans? If you like XTC and eccentric rock such as that you might really enjoy it...they aren't too well known in the states and I don't know if most CD's are only available as imports now. They put a new one out last year without Dolby and all I could do is shake my head and think WHAT'S MISSING HERE!!!??? Everybody and their mothers kept telling me that In-n-Out was the awesomest, and well worth living in the western US for, and that I should waste no time in partaking. So, I go there, and order a burger, fries and shake. I must say, the shake was great.. actually tasted like dairy for a change. And the burger, if you get a single, was tasty albeit small. But the fries, I have to tell you.. the fries completely underwhelmed me. I've gotten them 3 times now and it's obvious that they don't soak them to get the excess gummy starch off before frying them. That and they're always undercooked, mushy and generally gross! Someone has since informed me that you can ask for "well-done fries" and they'll leave them in the fat a little longer, but I haven't bothered to go back and try it. On the other hand, my 17-year-old brother in VA is impressed cause I have eaten where Jeff Spicoli did. Oh and /\/\iles, I finally remembered where I'd seen the Frisco Burger. Hardee's restaurants sell them in the east.. at least the one near my mom's house in Virginia Beach does. Isn't it goofy how no one there has a single clue that's a big no-no? - -- Elaine Linstruth Palmdale, CA (USA) On Thu, 25 Feb 1999, Stephen M. Debrah - DarkPoet >> Welcome Debrah, I too am a fan of the Prefabs. Their last offering as you say was a definite disappointment. Especially after such a long wait. The sleeve notes of their previous collection some 6 years prior promised much, but I must admit that when cracks stopped responding to my letters about them and Thomas I did start to get a little concerned about progress. Let's hope that when Thomas releases something again, it's worth the wait... I'm sure it will be!!!! Trev B.
