Yes, at the 11th hour, with the warden about to flip the switch, I've been saved. With only five days left before my apartment lease ends, I am now employed again. Yesterday I got the wild surprise of having two job offers before me. One was a permanent job with wonderful benefits, but the pay was dreadful and I would have been a human ping-pong ball, zooming back and forth between DC and Mutha Russia (and her kids) every two weeks. Every month. I turned it down. I'm now a government contractor. No benefits, but excellent pay - and no job security. But, it's worth the risks - some travel, lots of creativity - public speaking engagements in several US cities and I get to craft a marketing scheme for an international training program. Then, if all goes as planned, in 6 weeks, I will begin a 3-month contract out in Kazakhstan, followed by another 3-month contract in Moscow. Then, who knows? Well I figure it's time for me to spill my beans also. Now that Beth's darling has arrived (Congratulations!!) and there seems to be quite an upswing happening here (Congratulations!!), I can add to the mix by announcing my impending motherhood (for the second time) (for the *LAST TIME*), due sometime toward the end of September. The first time around was full of a lot more anxiety, but this time around I'm having trouble because all I did the first time around was sleep a lot. I have a two-year-old here now, who's probably wondering how come mama is spending so much time on the couch these days. But I'm sure this is nothing new for all of you two+-time parents. Any advice from the initiated will be appreciated! And Beth, I'm so sorry to hear about the sleep trouble. I have SO been there. For me it got so bad that crying was the only physical release my body could come up with. In retrospect, it was just about all sleeplessness. In her second month, I had no choice but to switch to feeding her formula, and like a miracle it went away overnight. Suddenly I could sleep and my unstable emotional teetertotter became level again. (Not that I am advising you to formula feed, but more like, don't let it get that bad for you.) If you're like me, you can't just sleep because the baby's gonna nap for 2 hours and you "should." It takes me forever to go to sleep! I think if I'd asked my doctor for help, there must be some remedies or advice that would have made a difference. I certainly plan to this time around, if needed. But Beth, hang in there.. cause even though the next 2 months or so will feel like an eternity, it really is only the next two months or so. :-) Let us know how you're doing! And as for my own condition, I'm also putting you all on notice that I'm not checking mail very often these days. Feelin kinda pukey, if you want to know the truth. Ah motherhood? Anyway, I'll keep you posted. :-) - -- Elaine Linstruth Palmdale, CA (USA) On Wed, 24 Feb 1999, MacSuirtain wrote: > > Things are definitely on an upswing for the Alloy contingent: > > > > This is a very good thing - let's hope it's the beginning of a landslide > of good fortune for the whole group! ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V4 #58 **************************
