Tilson" Subject: Alloy: Impromptu gig last weekend Dear friends, In an event hinted at in a recent message from JAMac there was a meeting of members of the Colorado Alloy Contingent and the San Francisco Chapter last night in San Francisco. /\/\iles and Europa were honored to host JAMac, his lovely and charming lady, Theresa, and JAMac's parents for supper at a very pleasant restaurant in Ghirardelli Square that specializes in Punjabi cuisine. In a striking bit of synchronisity JAMac, Theresa, Europa, and /\/\iles were *all* wearing black outer garments, excepting Theresa's very eighties bright blue sneakers, that is. She is a darling, and will fit right in. JAMac's parents were very convivial and adroit at politely ignoring all the Dolby drivel which needs must be discussed at any gathering of this nature. They clearly love their son very much. Sadly, Lord Stemish had other obligations and could not attend. You missed it Bri. A splendid time was had by all. A more enjoyable gathering would be hard to imagine. It was a great honor that Europa and I should be included in what was a VERY busy day for JAMac and company . . . As a parting gift I left JAMac with my preliminary copy of "The Flattery Earth" on cassette. Europa slept on our way back to the hinterlands. We got home at 00:30 this morning! Still glowing, /\/\iles ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Feb 1999 16:58:27 -0500 From: "Beth Meyer" Subject: Alloy: Another new Alloy member, sort of Hi, folks; Well, I have much to say, but very little time right now, so we will see how much I can write before I collapse (or before husband Mark gets home and fusses at me for not napping when I had the chance). One week ago, on February 15 at 1:23 in the afternoon, we welcomed our first baby into the world, after four quick but incredibly intense hours of labor. Her name is Milena Lea Meyer. (That's pronounced mih-LAY-na LEE, by the way.) She weighed in at 6 pounds, 10 ounces, and was 19.5 inches long. Mother and daughter are both fairly healthy, except that mother is having a tough time recovering with so little sleep. Both parents are totally smitten. (Actually, mother is finding herself in a very new and bewildering emotional landscape -- having been a very reserved intellectual type her whole life, it is deeply scary to love someone so much so suddenly, particularly someone so tiny and helpless!) On a Dolby-related note, the third CD that she heard outside the womb was "Astronauts and Heretics." She liked it, I think, or at least didn't actively dislike it :-). (Just for the record, the music that was playing at her birth was the big band swing sounds of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and then she got a nice dose of the Brandenburg Concertos to recover by.) So anyhow, I am just now catching up a bit on e-mail, bit by bit. We do have photos scanned in, which I hope to get up on my web site shortly -- when I do, I'll pass along the URL. In the meantime, happy birthday to Slarv (and might I add that mid-February is a fine time to have been born, indeed!) and congratulations to Melissa and to JAMac and Teresa. Oh, and a gathering of the Colorado Alloyites this weekend at the Wynkoop would be most difficult for me, since a) I am still recovering, b) we are closing on a house this Thursday and moving over the weekend (!), and c) Milena is supposed to stay away from crowds for six weeks. But perhaps we could work out something else. I would definitely like to get JAMac's album back to him, ideally before we move so that we don't risk it getting lost or damaged, and of course there is the matter of showing off the baby :-) Cheers to all, A very sleepy Beth Beth Meyer bethmeyer@mindspring.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Feb 1999 00:13:08 +0000 From: "I T Admin @ Govt Office North West" Subject: Re: Alloy: Another new Alloy member, sort of At 16:58 22/02/99 -0500, Beth wrote: > >Hi, folks; >One week ago, on February 15 at 1:23 in the afternoon, we welcomed our first >baby into the world, after four quick but incredibly intense hours of labor. >Her name is Milena Lea Meyer. Congratulations! I'm sure she's absolutely adorable. :) I remember the days of no sleep all too well. Grab what you can when you can. :) I can also relate to your emotional state, being of basically the same temperament myself. Yay, hooray!! Congratulations, Beth and Mark! I'm sure Milena is every bit as lovely as her mom. :-) What a wonderful (close enough for government work) Valentine's Day gift!
