I got to meet Prof. Schickele twice back in high school. Both times were after concerts (I had front row seats for each where I'd been sprayed with seltzer water at one and coated in exploding piano debris at the other). He was a riot in conversation. Some of my choir friends and I liked to perform the "Ground Rounds." Our favorite was "Please Kind Sir." - - Melissa "I'm the village idiot/I don't have anything to do with this pathetic little opera/I'm just passing through!" -- Village Idiot Aria from "Hansel and Gretel and Ted and Alice, an Opera in One Unnatural Act" ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Jan 1999 01:44:33 -0700 From: "Keith Stansell" Subject: Alloy: Better Late Than Never Ok ok, so it's about 11 months old. Last March Beth Meyer traveled to Denver to interview with US West. Well, we all know now that she got the job and is now here. When she was here at the time she came to Denver and had dinner with myself and Dennis Alexander. It was the first official meeting of the Colorado Alloy Contingent. Unfortunately we were not aware that there was another Alloy member not so far away in Loveland Colorado - Erik Habbinga. Well, anyway - there was a photo taken of the event which sat in my camera for quite a while. I did eventually get the photo developed, but without a scanner, it just sat in the drawer for a while. Tonight I bought a new printer with a scanner cartridge and scanned the photo. So now, I share the event with you. In my dream, I wake up (in the dream, not real life). As I slowly come about I start to notice things that have changed in my apartment - "I don't remember that window being open", "when did I get that decorative box on the table" that sort of thing. Then I finally realize that I was sleeping in someone else's apartment by mistake. The owner of the apartment come in and instead of being shocked, we both have a big laugh about the whole mix-up. We start talking and I notice she is gathering up the stuff that is on the bed I am sleeping into a pile in the middle of the bed. I then notice that she is wearing a little cloth mask over her mouth (Michael Jackson style). I then notice (as you do in dreams) that her place is immaculate and she is a germaphobe (scared of germs) and here I am with this cold that I'm fighting. I'm thinking to myself "oh shit, this poor woman is just going to want to burn the sheets/mattresses/pillows because of all the cold germs I am leaving on this bed. I get out of the bed and start gathering up the sheets and offering to wash them for her (sort of like Spud in Trainspotting - but only because of the germs, nothing else). She agrees and drops me off at the building my apartment is in (this is a bit odd, because the buildings and apartments in the dream are not a place I have ever lived). I went into my apartment and find it completely empty. I'm thinking "oh shit, I've been robbed" I try to turn on the lights, they don't come on and I realized that I was in an empty apartment like mine- wrong building again. I'm sorry - I'm thinking there should be some sort of punch line here for your efforts, but that is pretty much where I woke up. I guess the think that struck me funny was how I was concerned about this pore germophobe and what hell she was going through to sterilize her apartment after this strange man with a cold had been sleeping there. I do have a cold, by the way - and the Nyquil may have contributed to this dream. If you are still with me at this point, I will mention that I did once have a celebratory appearance in a dream similar to Beth's about showing Dolby around Atlanta. In my dream however it was Howard Jones, and I showed him and some of his friends around Denver and up into the mountains. I had this dream a few months back just before he had a concert here. - -Keith (who will now go back to sleep, wake up and read this post and think - when did I write this?) Funny you should mention it too..
