(Trust me, I would have gladly gone my entire life without knowing what my father's intestines looked like...) Glad you're feeling better though! And can't wait to hear your version of "Dissidents" -- if it's anywhere near as good as your selection on the last tape, it should be wonderful (particularly because "Dissidents" is one of my favorite songs). Sounds like that malaria medication can have some nasty side effects indeed. Apparently, in rare cases, it has also been linked to psychotic episodes in otherwise normal people. I heard from my sister that it was implicated in the case of a missionary acquaintance in South America, a particularly kind and gentle person, who suddenly started chasing his cook around the kitchen with a butcher knife for no particular reason. For a while, we also blamed the malaria medication for the manic psychosis episode that required my sister to leave Pakistan after living there for a couple of years. But no such luck, she just has bipolar disorder that did not show up until that point. (Fortunately, thanks to the magic of lithium, she has been perfectly normal for 99.99% of the time since then. It's just that other .01% of the time that has been a bit scary...) Anyway, hope everything goes smoothly on this trip! They're written by Grant Naylor, and roughly follow the course of the series, but there's a lot of exposition and changing of detail, so you can't assume you know what's going to happen just because you've seen the programme. Now all I have to do is try to chase down the next one. :) Robyn M @ Robyn Moore @ http://www.alveus.com/kbrm/robyn.html @ You knew the job was dangerous when you took it. - S.C. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Jan 1999 00:11:18 EST From: CJMark@aol.com Subject: Re: Re: Alloy: Membership Sign in Hey all. Mark ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Jan 1999 00:28:29 EST From: CJMark@aol.com Subject: Re: RE: Re[2]: Alloy: What did Santa bring you? Hey John.. et al. Actually.. I did know what a GPS is. Not that I am a techno weenie by any stretch. But I've had two occasions to use them.. (owned by collegues, of course!) The first was in the Cayman Islands. I was doing a shoot for the Cayman Board of Tourism and we had gone to Cayman Brac by plane, then to Little Cayman by boat to shoot some scenes there. The boat owner from whom we rented did not want to return after dark, since there weren't obvious landmarks, (or seamarks for that matter) So the director had a GPS and we navigated home with it. Got us right back to the dock after dark.. and wow.. it was dark! The other time I was in a friend's small plane. We took off from Fort Lauderdale and flew to Key West. He used it as an altimeter as well as a navigational tool. Had it strapped right to the steering grips of the plane. Since I am often watching the sun rise with a group of unsavory looking characters on any given shoot day.. a GPS is nice to have to determine exactly where it is coming up.. though a compass works just as well for that too. Someday I'll be able to afford that toy.. but for now.. the compass will have to suffice. Ciao for now.. and Bon Voyage. I used to live in cooler climes.. but once I moved to Fort Lauderdale I could not stand the cold anymore! Now that I live in LA.. it is still hard to accept the temp dropping below 60... Being back in Miami for the winter is really great! (Except the last two days which have been Miami's version of winter.. it will last about two more days) Brrrrrr... Everyone dusts off their sweaters and jackets though.. so I suppose it is good to get the warm clothes out to make sure there are no holes in them. Ciao for now.. (The asterisk is standing in for the degree sign, since I can't find it on the keyboard.) For those who're interested, Lunabar is a shareware lunar almanac utility. When opened up, it'll tell you all kinds of neat stuff, like what sign the moon is in, what planetary hour it is, etc. When at rest, it puts a little moon icon in your status bar which waxes and wanes, as well as telling you what phase the moon is in and how old it is when you point at it. All you really have to do is plug your local coordinates into it. Obviously, I think it's a faboo product. It can be found at www.clysmic.com (which isn't answering right now :/).
